- 1896 – Edwin Flack wins the Men's 1500 metres at the 1896 Summer Olympics.

- 1967 – Peter John Badcoe died in the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery, conspicuous gallantry and leadership on more than one occasion.
