- 1936 - In Barcelona, Spain, the anarcho-trade unionists of the powerful Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) urge, without success, Luis Companys, president of the Generalitat (governing Catalonia), distributing weapons to the workers, to counter the imminent threat of a rightwing military coup d'etat.
