Pallathur Venkatachalam Nandhidhaa (Tamil: பள்ளத்தூர் வெங்கடாசலம் நந்திதா) (born 10 April 1996) is an Indian chess player from the state of Tamilnadu, who holds the FIDE titles of Woman Grandmaster (WGM) and Woman International Master (WIM). She is the 17th Woman Grandmaster of India. Her peak FIDE ELO rating is 2380 and she is holding 8 International Master norms as of April 2024. She is the reigning Nationals Women Chess Champion in 2024.
Nandhidhaa won an individual Gold in Asian Chess Championship held at New Delhi on 3 November 2022, making her only the 9th Indian Women to clinch the Asian Gold. She scored an unbeaten and impressive 7.5/9 to clinch the title, thereby also qualifying for the Women's Chess World Cup 2023. She won 7 medals each in Commonwealth Chess Championship and Asian level Chess Championship tournaments in different age categories. She won 6 National level Chess Championship Gold medals in different age categories. She has recently won the Gold medal in the 50th edition of the National Women Chess Championship 2024 in Karaikudi and qualified for the Women's Chess World Cup 2025 to be held in Georgia in July 2025.
Early childhood and education
[edit]Nandhidhaa was born on 10 April 1996 in Sankagiri in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. Her father, Venkatachalam, works as a Contractor and her mother, Sumathi, is the branch manager at TNSC Bank, Sankari, Salem. She is an alumnus of College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University, Chennai.[5] She earned her Engineering seat by topping the sports quota. She holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering (2013–17). On 20 Aug 2021, she married her childhood friend, Naveenkumar Selvaraj, a serving Indian Army Major.
Career
[edit]Nandhidhaa P V started her professional career in 2005. She won the Gold medal at the National Level Chess Championship (Under 11 Girls) held at Calicut in 2007. She won silver medal in the U-20 World Junior Chess Championship, in 2016 held at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.[6] She won bronze medal in U-14 World Youth Chess Championship held at Halkidiki, Greece in 2010.[7] In October 2020, she was part of the Indian women chess team along with Vaishali Rameshbabu, Padmini Rout, Bhakti Kulkarni, Mary Ann Gomes which won the Asian Nations (Regions) Online Chess Championship 2020 organised by FIDE. The team won the gold medal for India out of 31 Asian countries participated.[8] She was part of the 30 member Indian Chess Olympiad team which participated in 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, India from 28 July to 9 August 2022.
Nandhidhaa is the Asian Continental Chess Champion in 2022 and National Women Chess Champion in 2024. She is only the third player from the state of Tamilnadu to win the Indian Chess Championship title after Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi and Aarthie Ramaswamy. Her peak Elo Rating is 2380 and her best Indian Women ranking is 5th. She is holding 8 International Master norms as on Nov 2024. She participated in the Women's Chess World Cup 2023 in Baku and will be part of the Women's Chess World Cup 2025 in Georgia.

- Dec 2021 Shared first place finish at 47th La Roda International Open held at La Roda, Spain in Dec 2021. No woman had previously shared first place or finished in top three of the event[11]
- Oct–Nov 2022 Won the Gold medal at Asian Chess Championship held in New Delhi, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament and qualifying for the Women's Chess World Cup 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan[12]
- Nov 2023 Won the Gold medal at 4th Tamil Nadu IM Norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament held in Kodaikanal, Tamilnadu[13]
- Jan 2024 Hhighest finisher among female participants at 2nd Indore International Grandmaster Chess Tournament 2024 - GM Open held in Indore[14]
- Feb 2024 Won the Bronze medal in Women's category of the Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Malacca, Malaysia[15]
- Oct 2024 Won the Gold medal in the 50th National Women Chess Championship 2024 in Karaikudi, qualifying for the Women's Chess World Cup 2025 in Georgia[16]
