The population of the region is 1,025,000 people (28.6% of the country's population). The urban population (357,000 people) represents approximately 34.8% of the total per region. At the same time, 571 localities are located here: 20 cities and 551 rural localities, out of the total of 1679 localities of the Republic of Moldova.

Economy

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the region was 37.080 billion leu in 2021, accounting for 15% of Moldova economic output. GDP per capita was around 37,000 leu.[2]
