Nahd Bashir (Arabic: نهد بشير; born 11 October 1980) is an Israeli-Druze creator, actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. He became known for playing the role of "Dr. Samir" in the series "Dr. Carage," which he created.[1]
Biography
[edit]Born and raised in Maghar. He completed theater studies at the University of Haifa in 2008.[2] After finishing his theater studies, he completed teaching studies in the Department of Education at the University of Haifa. He holds a master's degree in law from the Academic Center for Law and Business.
Career
[edit]Over the years, Bashir has written, acted in, and produced dozens of theater plays in Arab society in Israel. He has participated in various festivals and won numerous awards in the field of theater.
Between 2006 and 2011, he served as the artistic director of Kafron Theater, the Artists' Association for the Promotion of Theater in Shfaram.
He was a member of the Israeli Council for Culture and Art at the Ministry of Culture.[3]
He established the production company "N.B. Orim Productions," where he produced and created numerous films, television series, and commercials.[4]
He served as the acting chairman of the Druze Culture Department and in 2023 was appointed as the director of Arab Culture at the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
Roles in Cinema and Television
[edit]Bashir began his professional career in television in 2009. That year, he played in the youth series "The Island 2" broadcast on the Israeli Children's Channel, where he portrayed Kart, the white pirate. That same year, he also acted in the film "Pink Subaru," a joint production between Japan, Italy, and Israel, where he played Adel. In 2012, he played a leading role in the film "The Submarine" directed by Gal Ginosar.[5]
In 2018, he portrayed "Dr. Samir," a leading role in the series "Dr. Carage" broadcast on the Kan public broadcasting corporation.[6] That same year, he played Abu Khader in the second season of the series "Fauda" broadcast on Yes. In 2019, he guest-starred in the successful series "Just for Today" broadcast on HOT, and in the comedy-drama "Bat El the Virgin." In 2021, he acted in the global series "Travel Warning."[7]

Writing and Translation
[edit]In 2006, he adapted and translated Tolstoy's story "A Horse's Tale" into a play, which won two awards.[8] In 2008, he wrote the play "The Revolt of the Hens Ballads." The play participated in the Short Theater Festival for Social Change and won first place.[9] Additionally, he translated and adapted the play "Krapp's Last Tape" into Arabic. He also translated and adapted the story "The Prisoner" by S. Yizhar into a play.[10]
In 2008, he wrote and directed the play "Forever a Child," which participated in the Masrahid Festival competition and won two awards. That same year, he wrote the play "Harvest" for the Acre Festival of Alternative Israeli Theater.[11]
In 2018–2019, he wrote both seasons of the series "Dr. Carage" broadcast on Makan, the Arabic division of the public broadcasting corporation.
In 2021, he wrote and produced the film "Eternal Smile," a documentary broadcast on the public broadcasting corporation, based on Bashir's personal story during his military service. That same year, he wrote and directed two short films, "Adam's Apple" and "Dead Sea," which participated in dozens of festivals worldwide and won numerous awards.[12]
Bashir wrote the screenplay for the film "Low Tide," a feature that received more than 500 screenings in Israel.[13]
He began his creative career as a playwright and wrote many plays for theater in Arab society. For the Beit Hagefen Theater in Haifa, he wrote several plays, such as "Manipulation" and "Bicycle." At Kafron Theater, he wrote the plays "Korkintos" and "Dangerous Game." He translated the play "Love and Pain" into Hebrew, which was produced at Al-Midan Theater.
Professional Theater and Festivals
[edit]He has participated as an actor in leading roles in dozens of theater plays in fringe and Arab society in Israel, including "The Wooden Captain" at Theatronetto 2009, "Harvest," "The Snow Kingdom," "Pain and Love," "The Last Field," and many other plays.[14]
He has won several awards in the field of theater, including Best Actor and Best Play at the Acre "Masrahid" Festival 2017.[15]
Personal life
[edit]Bashir is married to Yvonne Bashir, an accountant, and is a father to two children.
