Early life and education

[edit]

Jamil was born in London on 13 October 1972, but moved to Lahore when she was nine. She attended the school of Convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore.[8] She holds a Master of English degree in literature.[9]

Jamil completed a bachelor’s in drama and creative writing at Hampshire College, US.[10] She also studied at Allegheny College . She completed her international fellowship at the Globe Theatre, London.

Career

[edit]

Jamil has been a Pakistani actress[11][12] and host for the past two decades. Jamil started her career in the 1990s.[13]

Jamil is a trustee of Sunjan Nagar, which is Raza Kazim’s school for financially-deprived girls. She performed a theatre project with them at Al-Hamra. She also serves as an ambassador for Girl Rising, a project which raises awareness about girls' education. She teaches theatre and drama and is working on a few projects with institutes like Oxford University Press and Aitchison, Kids Campus.

Personal life

[edit]

She is married to Ali Pervaiz and is mother to two sons, Rakae and Mir Vali.[14]

In April 2020, Jamil was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer/grade 3 tumor.[15][16] She underwent successful surgery soon afterwards[17] and by August was out of danger.[18]

Jamil worked in a video "Alvida", which is a cancer awareness campaign.[19]

Nadia was sexually abused at 4. [1]

--

Nadia Jamil's true introduction was revealed in a photo where she is standing with six children. Among them is Ali, who Nadia introduces herself as a mother to.

The oldest has started getting *GET* training and wants to join the army. He has been working for 4 years. When he used to sit on these footpaths doing manual labor, he was only 17. Today, he gives his food to others before he eats. This boy, Sabir, is a patient child. The one next to him is my hero, Arshad, who fixes cycles and works tirelessly. Now he is studying to become an engineer. Then there is Talha, who, at the age of 7, had to become a mother and father to his younger siblings after the death of his parents. Our upbringing was tough, and he showed great resilience. He came out of that environment, shining.

This has been an incredibly challenging task, which required a lot of hard work. After a few days of birth, Talha's mother passed away, and he stayed by my side, smiling. Ali Shakir is another hardworking youth who forgave his brother's murderer. He didn't retaliate, thanked me, and found peace in his freedom. His bravery in coming out of that difficult environment and living a life full of respect make me proud.

Nadia Jamil's humanitarian work is commendable. Perhaps that's why she has refused to accept life-prolonging treatments despite suffering from a severe illness like cancer.
