My Anti-Aircraft Friend is the debut studio album by American shoegaze band Julie. It was released on September 13, 2024, through Atlantic Records.[5] It was supported by three singles: "Catalogue", "Clairbourne Practice", and "Very Little Effort".[6][7][8]

Release and promotion

[edit]

Julie released the album's lead single, "Catalogue", on September 29, 2023. The song was described by Tom Breihan of Stereogum as a "hooky, pleasantly tangled piece of fired-up grunge-pop".[6] This was followed by the band supporting Alex G and Faye Webster on their respective tours in summer 2024, as well as playing a run of headlining shows.[9][10] On July 8, 2024, Julie officially announced that their debut album would be titled My Anti-Aircraft Friend, and would be released on September 13. Alongside the album announcement, the band announced that its second single, "Clairbourne Practice", would be released on July 10.[11] The song was described by the band as "sweet, then destructive" and they described its vocals as "maybe the most androgynous on the album".[12] On July 16, they announced a headlining North American tour for the album, which is set to be supported by They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Frost Children, and Her New Knife.[13] On August 21, they released the album's third single, "Very Little Effort". Breihan described the song as "a ringing, buzzing quilt of guitars with some very pretty vocals from Alexandria Elizabeth".[8] Months prior to the album's announcement, Julie played the then-unreleased songs "Clairbourne Practice", "Very Little Effort", "Tenebrist", "Knob", and "Thread, Stitch" at some of their live shows.[14]
