Multishow Brazilian Music Award for Sertanejo of the Year is an award presented annually at the Multishow Brazilian Music Award, a ceremony established in 1994 and originally called the TVZ Award. The Sertanejo of the Year category was created in 2023 as part of a reformulation of the Multishow Award Academy’s rules. 2023 as part of a reformulation of the Multishow Award Academy’s rules.[1][2] Previously, the Song of the Year award encompassed various musical genres in a single category.[3] However, starting in 2023, this category was divided into 11 new categories, each dedicated to a specific musical genre, including Sertanejo.[4][5]

This change aimed to recognize the diversity of genres within Brazilian music and provide greater visibility to popular styles that hold significant presence in the country’s music scene.[6] The Sertanejo of the Year category highlights the most impactful songs within the genre, honoring artists who contribute to the growth and popularity of sertanejo music in Brazil.[7]
