Malay names
[edit]Malay names don't have family name they just using given names and patronymic. But from the list, it's indexing the football player by their last name, but some of them should be referred from their first name or given name. Like Shahrel Fikri, should be referred to by the given name as Shahrel, but from the list it's refer as Fikri So , are there any solution or codes to fix this problems? — Preceding unsigned comment added by AKeZZZ (talk • contribs) 15:10, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- @AKeZZZ: Does this apply to all Malay names? Or just some? S.A. Julio (talk) 15:23, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
@S.A. Julio: Maybe we just need to add an extra parameter in the p.preprocessSortName function in the code for the Module, which can take an optional parameter of sorting a particular on the basis of its first name. Maybe I can help with it. Also not all Malay pages contain the patronymic names, for example Shahrel Fikri's patronymic name is Md. Fauzi and not Fikri, so maybe it is better to index on the second name.--Anbans 585 (talk) 15:47, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
@S.A. Julio: Also there is a part of no sort for East Asian names, All Malaysian names don't come into that category as the East Asian names, better to index by second name.--Anbans 585 (talk) 15:52, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
@S.A. Julio:not all of Malaysian players, this rules apply to the one who is Malay ethnic that use Malay names only, but the one who use Chinese names or western names will not be affect. Malaysia is multi-ethnic mainly consists of Malay, Chinese, and Indian. And this kind of Malay name also use in Brunei and Singapore too for the one who is Malay ethnic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AKeZZZ (talk • contribs) 15:59, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Anbans 585 and AKeZZZ: Alright, currently the module sorts using the exact name of the article by default for only the following countries: China, Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, North/South Korea and Vietnam. I suppose a parameter could be added to sort by given name for specific players, though the module currently allows the following to modify the default sort method:
{ {"[[Player Name]]", "New sort value" }, "XYZ", 1, 0, 0, 0},
. However, the simplest solution probably would be to use
, this will treat the name as if it were one word, for example{"[[Shahrel Fikri]]", "MAS", 1, 0, 0, 0 },
will sort by the given name. S.A. Julio (talk) 16:05, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
