The Minsk Cathedral Mosque (Belarusian: Мінская Саборная Мячэць) is a mosque in Tsentralny District, Minsk, Belarus. It is the biggest mosque in the country.
History
[edit]The construction of the mosque started in February 2004 and completed in June 2016. The mosque was finally opened in November 2016 in a ceremony attended by President Alexander Lukashenko and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.[1][2] In December 2019, an Islamic museum was opened in the mosque.[3]
Architecture
[edit]With a capacity of 1,500 worshippers, the mosque is the biggest one in Belarus. It consists of an Islamic museum and a hall with a capacity of 250 people.[1][2] It was built on a 2,800 m2 piece of land with Tatarian architectural style.[4]
Transportation
[edit]The mosque is accessible within walking distance north of Maladzyozhnaya Station of Minsk Metro.
