[2] Unnithan (1971) placed this species in the new genus and subgenus Caenomicrocotyle as Caenomicrocotyle (Caenomicrocotyle) branchiostegi.[1] However, this genus and this subgenus were returned into the genus Microcotyle by Mamaev.
