Improve wording January 2020
[edit]Following up from VPT:
Currently says You can override how this page's title is displayed by setting a different label to show instead.

- @Bdijkstra: let's follow up here. Improving this seems useful and shouldn't require much discussion as long as you don't want anything strange in it :) Looking at the other tool tips, seems to be OK for this to be a little longer as well. It does not support wikilinks, but borrowing any text from Wikipedia:Page_name#Changing_the_displayed_title may help. Would be good to include both what this does do, and what it doesn't do maybe. After reviewing WP:DISPLAYTITLE is there any more improvement you can think of for this tooltip? — xaosflux Talk 16:22, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

- @Xaosflux: My suggestion on VPT was: "You can enter wikicode here to change the markup of the page title." That covers the essence, but I think it wouldn't hurt to add: "Note: markup ONLY, this field cannot be used to change the plaintext of the page title. No feedback is given in the edit preview." --bdijkstra (talk) 17:45, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
- @Bdijkstra: How about:
You can enter wikicode here to change the style markup of the page title, including the capitalization of the first letter. This field cannot be used to change the text of title page title. To change the title of the page, use the move function.
I suspect the most often wrong use is from editors that actually want to move the page to a new title. — xaosflux Talk 18:02, 20 January 2020 (UTC)- Indeed the latter is what I have observed on a few wikis. "First letter" actually means "first character, if that is a letter"; not sure if it's worth being pedantic here. Also "title page title" should be "the page title". Otherwise I agree. --bdijkstra (talk) 18:08, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
