Non-free images

[edit]

Nat added a warning that "A non-free image must include a separate fair-use rationale for each article that it is been used in." But I would expect discussion here before such a change, so I've just reverted. If there is discussion elsewhere, please link there.

Such a warning may make sense, but it should only show up if the image is in Category:All non-free media. I don't think this can be accomplished with current code, so a bug would have to be filed. Superm401 - Talk 06:15, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was no discussion before this was done. The reason why I did this was due to the large amount of non-free images that do not have separate rationales for each article the image is used in. And the problem is, either the people who upload the images and/or adds the images to the articles don't know, or they choose to ignore policy. I understand why you reverted my edits and I respect that decision. But this issue does need to be addressed. nat.utoronto 11:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The <div> tags are not being rendered correctly – the < and > characters are being rendered as &lt; and &gt; in the image page HTML. Have a look at any image page to verify.

The page needs to be reverted to this good version. Many thanks. haz (talk) 17:39, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

...and reverted back; I the developers said they made an error that caused this bug and it has since been fixed, so I reverted back to use the divs again. --CapitalR (talk) 19:44, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This message says "pages on other projects are not listed", and then the very next section is "Global file usage" (see e.g. File:Gambell Alaska - Drone.jpg). This was added to the message in 2006, which was before the global file usage section existed.

I suggest at least removing the part of the sentence I mentioned, but it may even be better to just delete this customized message, and just use MediaWiki's default (but I'll leave that up to the responding admin). Jon Harald Søby (talk) 13:10, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be in favour of deleting the local copy entirely, it offers no benefit over the default text that e.g meta:MediaWiki:Linkstoimage shows. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 06:48, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
