If the destination page is a redirect, it shouldn't be followed.
[edit]I want to change this message so that if the destination page is a redirect, it shows the redirect page instead of its target. My first thought was to replace $1
with $1&redirect=no
, but somehow I suspect that won't work. What should I do? —Keenan Pepper 17:52, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Inadequate message should be enhanced to warn that the talk page may not be deleted
[edit]The current message: The destination page "$1" already exists. Do you want to delete it to make way for the move?
misleadingly implies that when
is checked, the talk page will be deleted as well when
is checked. This is very often not the case because the talk page will not be deleted if it has page history. The problem is compounded by suppression of the warning message that might have been shown by MediaWiki:Movepagetalktext, by blanking that page to overwrite the default message, after this August 2018 discussion at Wikipedia talk:Requested moves. I discovered that after noticing that there was a default message after installing a local version of MediaWiki on my desktop PC. See image I uploaded on the right, showing the default message:
If you check this box, the associated talk page will be automatically moved to new title, unless a non-empty talk page already exists there. In this case, you will have to move or merge the page manually if desired.
