Proposal to add a link to the warning text
[edit]The Help desk frequently entertains the question: Why was my article deleted? Presumably only a few of the (generally new) users who have this question are able to find their way to the Help desk to ask it, so we are probably seeing just the tip of the iceberg there. I saw an estimate that Wikipedia deletes about 2,000 articles per day, which would seem to imply the current warning is insufficiently informative.
Can we edit the first sentence of MediaWiki:Copyrightwarning2 to link to the relevant article? I suggest presenting it like this:
- Please note that all contributions to Wikipedia may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors.
Even better would be to re-word the warning from the passive voice to the active voice to make it shorter, more direct, and more understandable:
- Please note: other contributors may edit, alter, or delete anything you contribute.
Bolding the link should, hopefully, call more attention to it, and possibly increase the number of new users who RTFM a little before sinking many hours into the futile editing of inappropriate content. Thanks for your attention. --Teratornis 16:29, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
