Career

[edit]

She gained her first taste of experience in auctioneering at Mumbai as a teenager when she gained an opportunity to read a book with a senior female auctioneer as its protagonist.[1] She graduated with a degree in the art history at the Bryn Mawr College in Philadephia.[2]

She pursued her career in the field of art auctioneering. In 2001, she began her career at Christie’s, a prominent international auction house in New York City.[3] She eventually became the first Indian woman auctioneer to serve for the international art and luxury business Christie’s when she was assigned the job role at the age of 26.[4] She specialized in the aspects of modern art and prolonged her career prospects as an auctioneer at auction houses including Pundole's Art Galleries, predominantly in Mumbai.[5]

She made her maiden appearance as a sports auctioneer in 2021 by hosting Pro Kabaddi League player auction ahead of the competition's eight season and she became the first female auctioneer to host a Pro Kabaddi League auction.[6] She received an invitation from the prominent auctioneer Hugh Edmeades to serve as his alternative backup option as a precautionary measure and as a contingency plan prior to the 2021 Indian Premier League auction as the event was held during the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] She also hosted player auction as an auctioneer for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League.[2]

She was announced as the auctioneer for the 2024 Indian Premier League auction which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and she replaced Hugh Edmeades for the role as Edmeades stepped aside from hosting the auction due to health issues.[7][8][9] She eventually became the first female auctioneer to conduct an auction in the history of the Indian Premier League.[1]

In November 2024, she was appointed as the auctioneer to host the 2025 Indian Premier League auction.[10][11]
