Madhubanti Bagchi[1] is an Indian singer and composer musician.[2] A disciple of the Agra Gharana, her repertoire includes the genres of Indian classical, pop and playback singing.[3][4]
Madhubanti performs as a playback singer for Bollywood films and other Indian film industries.[5] She has collaborated with leading composers like Pritam, Amit Trivedi, Sachin-Jigar, Debojyoti Mishra, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shekhar Ravjiani, Shantanu Moitra and has rendered her voice in Hindi films such as Uunchai (2022), Doctor G (2022), Good Luck Jerry (2022), Hum Do Hamare Do (2021), Laxmii (2020), Love Aaj Kal (2020) and Heeramandi (2024).[6]
She has left a mark of her craft in the Bengali film industry with songs in films like Kuler Achaar (2022), Boudi Canteen (2022), Shah Jahan Regency (2019), Ahare Mon (2018), Shob Bhooturey (2017), Gangster (2016), Shudhu Tomari Jonyo (2015) and Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends (2013).
In 2022, she also featured in the first season of Coke Studio Bangla.[7] The song Aaj Ki Raat from Stree 2 has garnered 222 million+ views on YouTube.[8][9]
Early life
[edit]Madhubanti was born in Balurghat, South Dinajpur, West Bengal. Her father, Subrata Bagchi is a professor and her mother Srabani Bagchi, is a businesswoman.
Education and musical training
[edit]Madhubanti holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from the Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. She completed her master's degree in Laser and Optical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata.[10]
Madhubanti was introduced to music by her father and received her initial training under his tutelage. When she was in the third standard she started her formal training with the Agra gharana exponent Shrimati Subhra Guha. Later, she had also taken lessons from the renowned thumri singer Vidushi Purnima Chowdhury.
Madhubanti has also been part of a Bengali band called Mrittika.[11]

[edit]In the year 2021 Madhubanti made debut on the OTT platforms. She collaborated with National-Award-winning lyricist Swanand Kirkire and Daniel B. George for the OTT web series Grahan.[24] In 2024, she again collaborated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his acclaimed web series on Netflix, Heeramandi.[25]
