Gaza List: Voices against the genocide (Austrian German: Liste Gaza: Stimmen gegen den Völkermord or simply Liste Gaza) is a political party in Austria founded in 2024.[3] The party's primary focus is advocating for peace, justice, and human rights, particularly concerning the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The party formed as a result of widespread protests in 2023, following renewed violence between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.[4]

History

[edit]

Liste Gaza was created by a group of activists who alleged that the Austrian government’s stance and policies were not adequately addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.[5] After months of protests within Austria, which began in October 2023, the founders of the party decided to contest the Austrian parliamentary elections. Their goal was to bring attention to the issue of Gaza on the political stage in Austria.[6]

Ideology and objectives

[edit]

The core ideology of Liste Gaza revolves around advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a just resolution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The party calls for Austria to return to its constitutional commitment to neutrality in international conflicts.[7] Some of their key political demands include:

Their goal is to pass the 4% threshold required for parliamentary representation. They focus on advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza, hoping to influence Austrian and European foreign policy on the conflict.[11]
