Richard Dreyfus is an American actor. Dreyfus won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his leading comedic role in the romantic comedy film The Goodbye Girl (1977). He was Oscar-nominated for his role as a composer turned music teacher in Mr. Holland's Opus (1995).

He is also known for starring in films such as the coming of age drama American Graffiti (1973), the horror film Jaws (1975), the science fiction Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), (1977), the musical drama The Competition (1980), the drama Stand by Me (1986), the comedy Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986), the buddy cop comedy Stakeout (1987), the drama Nuts (1987), the romantic fantasy Always (1989), the comedy What About Bob? (1991), the romantic comedy The American President (1995) and the political drama W. (2008).
