Yuito and his friend Nagi engage in an improvised training session until they are reminded that initiation ceremony is about to commence. Upon reaching the ceremony, they acquire information about Kasane and Naomi Randall, two daughters from a prestigious family that were scouted by the OSF. Yuito and Nagi are recruited into Seto Platoon, alongside Yuito's childhood friend Hanabi. Both Seto Platoon and Kyoka Platoon are sent into the Suzaku area to suppress an Other breakout. Once the Platoons reach the area, Yuito and Nagi are ordered to stay on the rearguard and wait for backup, until they detect an Other threatening a child. They find themselves outgunned and outnumbered by the Others until they get assistance from Kasane and Randall from Kyoka Platoon. During the mission, Yuito realizes that it was Kasane who saved Yuito's life back when he was just a child.
2 | "Scarlet Guardians" Transliteration: "Sukāretto Gādian" (Japanese: スカーレットガーディアン) | Moe Suzuki | Toshizō Nemoto | Tensai Okamura | July 8, 2021[b]
With Yuito's first mission officially over, he wonders how is it possible that Kasane saved his life back when he was 5. Meanwhile, Naomi suggests to Kasane that they should take the morning off to have some rest and relaxation and they end up crossing paths with Yuito and Nagi. The foursome spend some time together until they are taken to a joint training session between the Seto and Kyoka Platoons. The teams take part in a capture the flag battle, in which Kasane comes to believe that Naomi has a crush on Yuito and uses the battle to test Yuito's worthiness for her sister. Because of Arashi's laziness and Kasane's obsession with Yuito, Seto Platoon wins the match, but suddenly, both teams are called in to suppress an Other breakout at an abandoned subway system. As the teams fight the Others and move deeper into the subway tunnels, communication between the teams becomes disrupted. Suddenly, an unidentified assailant attempts to shoot Kasane, but Naomi predicts the shot with her powers and uses her body to shield Kasane. The bullet embedded on Naomi's chest causes her body to be encased in icy crystals.
3 | "Conspiracy" Transliteration: "Inbō" (Japanese: 陰謀) | Masaharu Tomoda | Toshizō Nemoto | Kurio Miyaura | July 15, 2021
The bullet Naomi was shot with ends up turning her into a massive Other, forcing the Scarlet Guardians to defend themselves from her rampage. Suddenly, a group of mysterious individuals teleports Naomi away, leaving Nagi and Kasane traumatized over the situation. With the battle over, Fubuki asks the platoons to keep what happened a secret between them and he will report that Naomi was killed in action and Yuito notices some ampules hidden in the battleground. As the platoons mourn Naomi's official death, Nagi is sent to the hospital to recover while Kasane's family disowns her for her failure to protect Naomi. Kasane is then told by Karen that the people that took Naomi is a mysterious group called Seiran and that there's still a chance for Naomi to return to her human form. Kasane tells Yuito of her intention to bring Naomi back home and Yuito shows her the ampules he found in their last mission. As Kasane inspects the ampules, she finds Seiran's symbol on them and tells Yuito that she has seen medication marked by Seiran in her own home. The OSF is later called to hold off a huge Other offensive, with Nagi rejoining the Seto platoon just in time for the mission. However, he doesn't seem to have any recollection of Naomi's transformation into an Other. As the Seto and Kyoka platoons reach their designated location, however, they find no Others in the area and instead find themselves surrounded by OSF operatives led by Gemma, who accuses Seto of leading unethical research. Seto is confused by this accusations, and suddenly, Luka arrives at the battlefield and tells the Seto and Kyoka platoons to escape while he holds Gemma's forces off. Karen arrives moments later and engages Luka in combat and Kasane expresses her suspicions of New Himuka's government being involved in Naomi's condition. In that moment, a mental command is triggered within Nagi, causing him to approach Yuito and Kasane.
4 | "Red Strings" Transliteration: "Reddo Sutoringusu" (Japanese: レッドストリングス) | Kiyoshi Egami | Akiko Inoue | Shinji Itadaki | July 22, 2021
As a huge battle breaks out between the OSF operatives gathered in the area, Nagi attacks Yuito and Kasane, claiming that he doesn't know what Karen is planning but, even so, he doesn't want to betray Karen's trust. Yuito and Kasane attempt to reason with Nagi and reveal that Naomi didn't die but was rather turned into an Other, but Nagi is unconvinced by their words, forcing Seto to step in and fight Nagi. Seto is lethally injured by Nagi's blades but manages to incapacitate Nagi before dying. Suddenly, a mysterious dark void opens up in the sky and begins to consume everyone in the area, except for Yuito and Kasane, who are suddenly teleported into a mysterious realm filled with the red strings from Kasane's visions. There, they share a vision of Yuito's ancestor, Yakumo, but are unable to decipher its meaning before Kasane is enveloped by the red strings and Yuito is returned to the real world. Luka manages to save the lives of Hanabi, Tsugumi and Gemma but is unable to recover Seto's body, which is swallowed up by the void. The survivors of the battle go to a nearby shelter, where Gemma reveals that the New Himukan government plans to open up a surveillance society and monitor people with high psionic potential in the Suoh area. He also sys that the government also conducts experiments on OSF operatives, radically altering their personalities, which explains what happened to Nagi. Yuito wonders if Karen opposes the government's actions, but Gemma believes Karen must have an ulterior motive behind what happened recently. Meanwhile, Karen bears witness to an Other horde breaking into the Suoh area, while Kasane awakens right near the Kunad Highway and is found by Kyoka, Arashi and Shiden. As the OSF operatives explore the area, an unidentified man dressed in OSF gear observes Kasane.
5 | "Karen's Revolt" Transliteration: "Karen no Hanran" (Japanese: カレンの反乱) | Kyōhei Suzuki | Yōichi Katō | Shinji Itadaki | July 29, 2021
As the OSFT fights the Others in the Suoh area, Yuito receives a telepathic message from Wataru, who warns him that Seiran has performed a coup d'etat against the New Himukan government. A few moments later, Yuito and his group meet up with Fubuki and explain the situation to him. Fubuki admits even he lack a firm grasp on the situation, so, for the moment, he drafts Yuito's team into his unit and task them to ensure Chairman Sumeragi's safety. They're also met by Luka, who has failed to find Karen and the members from Kyoka's platoon. Suddenly, Karen transmits a message across the city's TV screens, in which he exposes the government's intention to impose a surveillance society on New Himuka and announces his allegiance with Seiran. He also urges the people of the city to rise up and overthrow the government, and as the Others surround Yuito's group, Gemma tells Yuito to make sure his father is safe. As he makes his way to the government's shelter, he finds it already overrun by Others. He stumbles upon Kasane holding a knife and standing next to his father's body and suddenly, she rushes at Yuito.
6 | "A Doomed Tomorrow" Transliteration: "Hametsu no Ashita" (Japanese: 破滅の明日) | Akira Toba | Toshizō Nemoto | Shinji Itadaki | August 5, 2021
Kasane and the members of the Kyoka platoon explore the ruins of the Kunad Highway, they discover that all of Suoh has been destroyed by some unknown disaster, possibly related to the void in the sky. Suddenly, they are ambushed by Karen, who copies Kasane's powers before making his escape. As Kasane and her friends walk deeper into Suoh, they meet the mysterious man that has been watching Kasane since she arrived. He reveals himself to be Yuito Sumeragi and that Kasane's group is now in the year 2070. Unfortunately, Kyoka, Shiden and Arashi disappear into thin air and Yuito explains that they returned to their original timeline. Because of Kasane's ability to remain in the future, Yuito reveals that she doesn't possess psychokinesis, but rather gravikinesis, the power of time travel, a power that Yuito possesses, as well. The void in the sky, the Kunad Gate, was create by the sudden connection of Yuito and Kasane's powers. According to Yuito, it is his power that keeps the Gate open and the Gate would vanish if he were to die. However, the New Himukan government convinced Yuito that there was another way to close the Gate, as Yuito had been recognized as a hero for his efforts to suppress the Seiran rebellion. Yuito begs Kasane to kill his past self and tells her that her gravikinesis can be triggered by powerful emotions, so he goads the Others into killing him. The emotional shock of watching Yuito die causes Kasane to tap into the power of the Red Strings and return to her time. As Kasane reaches the government's shelter, she stumbles upon the dying Chairman Sumeragi, who succumbs to his injuries but not before confirming that it was indeed the New Himukan government that turned Naomi into an Other. As Yuito arrives at the shelter, Kasane remembers what the Yuito from the future had told her and reluctantly attacks Yuito. The other Guardians attempt to restrain her, but she escapes with assistance from Kagero and receives a message from Haruka, who tells her to meet up with Kyoka's platoon at an abandoned building. Once there, she informs her squadmates about what she has learned. Meanwhile, Kaito calls Yuito and tells him that the time has come for Yuito to become a hero.
7 | "The Hunt for Nagi" Transliteration: "Tsuiseki, Nagi" (Japanese: 追跡、ナギ) | Hiromichi Matano | Toshizō Nemoto | Moe Suzuki Kurio Miyaura | August 12, 2021
As part of Kaito's plan to turn Yuito into the hero of New Himuka, he assigns Gemma, Tsugumi, Hanabi, Wataru and Luka into a new platoon led by Yuito. However, ever since the formation of the new platoon, Yuito has been unable to remember key moments of his life. Meanwhile, at Seiran's hideout, Karen has recruited Kyoka, Arashi, Shiden, Kagero and Haruka into a new platoon to be led by Kasane, who has agreed to hep Seiran in exchange for a way to return Naomi back to normal. Kasane tells Karen that she didn't assassinate Chairman Sumeragi, but he tells her to keep that a secret, as the people of Seiran see her as a heroine. They exchange information, with Kasane revealing that she met Karen's future self and Karen revealing that Naomi is being held at a top-secret research facility. To prevent any conflict between them, Arashi promises Karen to keep an eye on Kasane and advises Kasane to follow Seiran's orders until they can find a way to return Naomi to normal. Yuito is taken the OST Hospital in order to get a check-up, but the platoon notices Nagi being taken to a hospital in Lokusho City, which was previously destroyed years ago. As the platoon investigates the hospital, both the OSF and Seiran monitor the Kunad Gate and notice it has grown larger. As Nagi is placed on a chair, ready to be experimented on by scientists, the hospital detects intruders, causing Nagi to awaken and incapacitate the scientists. Yuito and his platoon immediately destroy a nearby Other, but they are suddenly approached by Nagi.
8 | "The Hospital's Secrets" Transliteration: "Byōin no Shinsō" (Japanese: 病院の真相) | Shuntarō Tozawa | Akiko Inoue | Tensai Okamura | August 19, 2021
Yuito attempts to reason with Nagi, who barely saves Yuito's platoon from an Other behind their backs. He also reveals that he didn't kill the scientists that brainwashed him, he merely incapacitated them. Unfortunately, the scientists unleash a horde on both Yuito's platoon and Nagi, intending to capture them both. As Yuito and his squadmates escape, Nagi elects to remain behind and hold the Others off as much as he can, saying that it is too hard for him to break free off New Himuka's brainwashing. Luka realizes Yuito's objectivity is compromised, so he forcibly teleports him out of the hospital and advises him to retreat for now. As the team retreats into their shelter, Nagi is recaptured by the scientists, who subject him to the brainwashing process yet again. At the shelter, Fubuki tells Yuito's team that the New Himukan government was planning to eliminate them because of their investigation on the hospital, but Fubuki convinced them otherwise, under the pretense that he was watching Yuito's movements. He also explains that the government brainwashes people it deems inconvenient, like Nagi, who witnessed Naomi become an Other. The hospital was founded by the government as an effort to research psionics and create powerful psionic users, but the experiments yielded two by-products: personality rehabilitation (brainwashing) and metamorphosis (human transformation into an Other). Unfortunately, Fubuki cannot explain any further, as the government is watching his actions very closely, so he tells the team to listen to Luka instead. Luka, having heard some of the story from his brother Karen, explains to the team that Fubuki was engaged to Alice Ichijo, Hanabi's aunt. Official reports stated that Alice was killed in action, but she was in fact turned into an Other, but unlike Naomi, Alice's metamorphosis was an accident, not the actions of the government. Meanwhile, Kasane, with full support of her squad, infiltrates a Seiran facility where Naomi is being supposedly held at. Once they infiltrate the facility, the squad finds ampules similar to the ones used to turn Naomi into an Other. As Arashi attempts hack into the facility's computers, the squad is attacked by Others, but they escape by running into a hall too small for Others to fit through. Suddenly, Kasane picks up a psionic transmission from Naomi, which Haruka confirms comes from the facility. The squad finally reaches the room Naomi is being held at and are surprised she is capable of psionic communication despite her Other form. Unfortunately, such moments of human sapience are brief and Naomi briefly returns to her Other-like mentality and attacks Kasane. Fortunately, Karen intervenes and injects Naomi with an ampule, causing Naomi to fall asleep. Karen explains that the ampules allow Naomi to retain some semblance of human intelligence, but they are little more than a temporary measure, and he believes that the only way for Naomi to regain her humanity is with Kasane's psionic powers. Yuito and his team are told by Fubuki to be more discreet about their activities and one of the OSF soldier gives Yuito a box of medicines, as prescribed by the OSF's hospital. As he opens the box, he is shocked to find the meds are the same ampules Naomi had been injected with.
9 | "A Dubious Wonder Drug" Transliteration: "Giwaku no Tokkōyaku" (Japanese: 疑惑の特効薬) | Shinji Nagata | Yōichi Katō | Shinji Nagata | August 26, 2021
Fubuki tells Yuito's team that the best way to enact change on the government is to gather evidence on the government's illegal activities. His plan is to upload that incriminating evidence to Arahabaki, the supercomputer that control information traffic all over Suoh, so he tasks Yuito on gathering that evidence. He does, however, warn Yuito that undertaking this mission will put Yuito and his friends in danger, as Yuito is not only the commander of his own platoon but the nation's new hero, as well. Yuito, however, is resolute in exposing the government's crimes and gets full support from his friends. As the platoon gets deployed into its next mission, Yuito's friends advise him not to use the medicine unless it's absolutely necessary. Unfortunately, as soon as they reach the area of operations, they are attacked by Others and the only way Yuito can be useful to his teammates is by using his psionics. Yuito is forced to consume the medicine, which boosts his psionics to abnormal levels and he easily defeats the Others. Sometime later, Yuito and his friends spot a convoy of Seiran trucks carrying a suspicious cargo. They follow the trucks and find the Seiran facility protected by Kasane and her squad. Once they infiltrate the facility, they find it filled to the brim with crates holding human brains and ampules containing the medicine prescribed to Yuito, who comes to the bitter realization that his medicine was made from psionic blood and brains. Suddenly, they are intercepted by Kasane's team, who believe that Naomi can't be restored to her human form if the research facility is exposed. The two teams briefly engage in battle, but Arashi allows them to escape, knowing that all of them have doubts on whether or not these experiments were justified and whether or not killing Yuito is the only way to save the world. Moments later, Naomi reveals that she overheard the conversations from scientists about the drug and says she doesn't want to take the drug anymore, believing the cost to be too high for her. Naomi appreciates what her sister has done for her and requests some time for herself. Yuito's team is moved a cabin in the woods, where it waits for Fubuki's new orders. Once Fubuki arrives, he reveals that he reported the incident at Seiran to the government, making the government believe that Fubuki has committed treason against his family, who built the facility in the first place, in favor of the government. He also reveals that the facility was built on the suggestion of himself and Karen.
10 | "The Rebel Yuito" Transliteration: "Hangyakusha Yuito" (Japanese: 反逆者ユイト) | Masatoshi Hakada | Toshizō Nemoto | Kurio Miyaura | September 2, 2021
Fubuki reveals that Alice is being held at the facility Yuito's team infiltrated earlier because Fubuki believed it was the only way to save Alice, even though both he and Karen knew the facility would be misused the way is being misused now. As Nagi witnessed Naomi's transformation into an Other, Fubuki believes that Nagi's memory of the event was extracted from his mind and is being held at the hospital they infiltrated earlier, so Fubuki tasks Yuito's platoon to return to the hospital and recover Nagi's memory data. Once they reach the hospital, however, they are ambushed by Nagi, who has undergone a stronger form of personality rehabilitation. Yuito attempts to incapacitate Nagi, but his powers shorten out at the worst possible moment and he is captured by Nagi, who forces Yuito's teammates to lay down their weapons and surrender. Meanwhile, Kasane's platoon is reprimanded by Karen for letting Yuito's platoon escape with full knowledge of the facility. He explains to the platoon that he wants to find a way for Others to regain their humanity, while Seiran wants to use Others as living weapons against New Himuka. Kasane's friends tell Karen that Naomi has chosen not to take the drug now that she knows of its origins but they are sure Karen will force Naomi to take it, even if that means going against her wishes. Karen also reveals to Kasane that the Kunad Gate's expanding growth is connected to the psionic power displayed by Yuito, a conclusion reached by New Himuka, as well. Yuito has a dream of his mother comforting him after a terrible experiment, and as he wakes up, he finds himself strapped to the same chair Nagi was experimented on. One of the scientists in charge of the experiments reveals that Yuito was actually born as a "dud", a person without psionic powers, and he was subjected to experiments in order to receive psionic powers in the first place. Unfortunately, repeated use of his psionic powers is causing damage to accumulate in his brain, which explain Yuito's power shortages and memory lapses. The scientist intends to continue experimenting on Yuito as he did years ago, but Fubuki saves him and the rest of his platoon, thanks to a tracker he had placed on them. Unfortunately, Nagi and his memory data are nowhere to be found and the OSF will be bearing down on Yuito's platoon in a few minutes. Suddenly, the team is attacked by Others and is forced to escape from the hospital, but not before Fubuki elects to remain behind and give Yuito a device that will grant him access to Arahabaki. As Yuito and his friends escape from the hospital, they are intercepted by Karen, who has already incapacitated the OSF soldiers sent to arrest Yuito's platoon and reveals that Yuito has been branded as a traitor by New Himuka and he won't be able to set foot in Suoh now, which is why extends Yuito the offer to join Seiran. Yuito refuses, claiming that Seiran is ultimately no better than New Himuka. Karen advises Yuito to take refuge in Togetsu, an independent city that owes no loyalty to either Seiran or New Himuka. He then makes his way into the hospital, but not before giving Yuito one last dose of the medicine needed to stabilize his powers. He warns, however, that the medicine is temporary and, sooner or later, he will lose both his powers and his memories. Karen enters the hospital just in time to save Fubuki from the Others, while Kyoka advises Togetsu to defect from Seiran and go to Togetsu for protection.
11 | "Togetsu" Transliteration: "Togetsu e" (Japanese: トゲツへ) | Akira Toba | Akiko Inoue | Shinji Itadaki | September 9, 2021
Because of his defiance of the OSF's orders, Yuito has been branded a traitor by the New Himukan government. At the shelter, Yuito reveals to his friends that he was born as a dud and it was only through the government's experiments that he obtained psionic powers. Knowing they cannot stay in Suoh or go to Seiran, Yuito suggests that they should go to Togetsu, a city that has remained independent from both New Himuka and Seiran, and the team agrees. Meanwhile, Kyoka and Haruka reveal to Kasane's platoon that the trucks containing the human brains used in the manufacturing of the drug keeping Naomi sapient come from Togetsu, a place Kasane is seriously considering to go, as well. Kasane's teammates question the decision to go to Togetsu, especially Kagero, who himself originated from Togetsu. Even so, they also know that Karen is keeping too many secrets from them, so remaining at Seiran may not be the best course of action, either. Kasane decides to go to Togetsu, if only to confirm if that city has something that can save Naomi. Karen is later revealed to have saved Fubuki from the Others and taken him to a hospital at an undisclosed location. Kasane's platoon makes its way to Togetsu but is attacked by a giant, snow-generated Other. After slaying it, Kasane and her friends reach the entrance to Togetsu, where Kagero separates himself from the group for personal reasons. The group is greeted by priestesses of Togetsu's local faith, the faith of the Moon, and they tell Kasane that she originated from Togetsu and that New Himuka kidnapped her because of her enormous psionic potential. Kasane refuses to believe the story and demands access to the city, but the priestesses will only allow her and her alone to get inside. Kasane refuses to leave her teammates behind, causing a fight to break out. Kasane breaks the mask of one of the priestesses and unveils her to be Kyoka, who uses her duplicates to incapacitate Kasane and her group. Yuito and his group, on the other hand, are warmly received as soon as they make it to Togetsu and the priests promise him to tell him the truth about everything.
12 | "The Moon's Secrets" Transliteration: "Tsuki no Himitsu" (Japanese: 月の秘密) | Moe Suzuki | Toshizō Nemoto | Shinji Itadaki | September 16, 2021
Yuito's platoon is led to a computer system operated by an artificial intelligence with the image of Kyoka. The AI reveals that Kyoka is actually one of several Design Children, genetically engineered humans created by Togetsu to have specific psionic powers. According to the AI, the Earth suffered a massive shift in orbit 3,000 years ago, causing humanity to evacuate to the Moon and wait till the Earth was healthy enough to support life again. Once the Earth healed, a select group of people returned to Earth and established New Himuka. However, contact with the people on the Moon has been cut off due to interference from the Extinction Belt. When Yuito asks about the origins of the Others, the AI replies that it lacks that kind of information, but that information can be found on BABE, a far more advanced computer system located in Togetsu, as well. When Yuito asks about the Kunad Gate, the AI reveals that the Kunad Gate is linked to his own psionic power and that its growth can no longer be halted. The Kunad Gate is estimated to grow to the point of consuming the entire Earth in the near future, but the followers of the Togetsu faith are counting on that to happen, believing that the Kunad Gate will remake the universe the way it should be. The AI shuts down before it can provide further answers but one of the Togetsu priests offers to take Yuito's platoon to BABE in order to find more answers. Kagero ultimately changes his mind about confronting his brethren from Togetsu and decides to rescue Kasane's platoon. Kasane herself, having been isolated into a room, has a dream about a woman who took care of her when she was younger in Togetsu. Kasane determines that woman, a scientist for the Togetsu faith who placed Kasane's safety above her own, to be her mother. She comes to the bitter realization that she is a Design Child, created by Togetsu to manipulate the red strings that can control time and space. She is rescued by Kagero, who tells her what a bad idea travelling to Togetsu was. Kagero has also determined that Yuito and his platoon have reached BABE's room. Once Yuito touches BABE, though, he is paralyzed by the sudden influx of knowledge.
13 | "The Design Children" Transliteration: "Dezain Chirudoren" (Japanese: デザインチルドレン) | Hiromichi Matano | Yōichi Katō | Tensai Okamura | September 23, 2021
The influx of knowledge from BABE extends to the other members of Yuito's platoon, just as Kasane and Kagero reach BABE's room. Against all odds, Kasanae manages to establish a mental communication with Yuito, urging him to break the connection BABE, which he does. With Yuito and his platoon coming back to their senses, Kasane asks them to help her rescue her platoon, which is still under Togetsu's captivity. Luka is able to safely connect to BABE, acquire administrator's rights and release the locks holding Kasane's platoon. Both platoons attempt to escape from Togetsu but encounter resistance along the way, with Yuito himself having to fight women similar to Kasane, leading him to the conclusion that Kasane is a Design Child, as well. Kasane's platoon reaches the outside but is intercepted by Kyoka, who shows visible hesitation in her mission. Kyoka attempts to complete Togetsu's mission, but Kasane urges her to decide what she really wants, instead of blindly following the will of Hitoyo Pope. Kagero explains to the platoon that Kyoka is a Design Child created from Pope's genes and Kyoka herself reveals that her mission was to lead Kasane to Togetsu once Kasane displayed the power of the Red Strings. Even so, Kasane sympathizes with Kyoka, because she knows what it feels like to lack a proper identity, which is why she encourages Kyoka to accept herself as her own person instead of just being Togetsu's lackey. Kyoka proclaims her desire to protect her new friends, which they accept with open arms. Having escaped from Togetsu, both platoons regroup at Kagero's secret hideout, where they exchange information on what they have learned throughout their own experiences. Kagero himself confirms the information of both platoons is equally true and reveals that not only is the structure they're hiding in is an Ark (one of the spaceships used by the lunar immigrants), he is a lunar immigrant himself.
14 | "A 2,000-Year Ambition" Transliteration: "Nisen-nen no Omoi" (Japanese: 二千年の想い) | Nana Harada | Toshizō Nemoto | Shinji Itadaki | September 30, 2021
Kagero explains that he was able to remain in his physical prime through the use of cryogenic capsules and that 2,000 years ago he came to know Yuito's ancestor, Yakumo Sumeragi. Before he can elaborate, the OSF storms the Ark and the platoons are forced to make their way through a cavern to escape from Hieno Mountain. According to Kagero, Yakumo Sumeragi was the leader of the efforts to recolonize the Earth, which eventually culminated in the foundation of New Himuka. Unfortunately, communication between the immigrants and the Moon was cut off due to the breakout of a disease that turned the Moon's humans into monsters, known as Others, caused by the radiation of a mysterious comet. In an attempt to save themselves, the Moon's people used satellites built by the immigrants to divert the comet's lingering radiation into the Earth itself, leading to the creation of the Extinction Belt. Left with no other choice, Kagero was forced to remain on Earth. The two platoons regroup at the cavern's entrance, but are attacked by a large Other that has adapted to its local environment and made the cavern its home. The Other endures the platoons' attacks and forces them to retreat. The platoons come up with another plan to defeat the Other but before enacting it, Kagero reveals to the group that there were some immigrants who never gave up on trying to return to the Moon, which led to the founding of Togetsu. Using cryogenic capsules, the people of Togetsu were able to monitor and assess events from the outside world and formulate a plan that would allow them to return to the Moon. Kasane comes to the realization that the creation of the Design Children also factored into Togetsu's plan, especially herself, for she has the Red Strings, the power to control time. However, Kagero knows doesn't know why Yuito possess Red Strings as well. The platoons defeat the Other and exit the cave as Kagero reveals that he was a spy for Togetsu, but already planned to betray them due to not wanting their plan to succeed as that would mean his family would never exist. Yuito believes the best course of action would be to convince New Himuka and Seiran to thwart Togetsu's plan, if only to protect their own interests, and everyone reluctantly agrees. Before returning to their respective factions, Yuito reveals to Kasane that he knew she didn't kill his father. Meanwhile, Nagi begins to remember Yuito while strapped to a chair and drugged with sedatives in a secret chamber.
15 | "Nagi Attacks" Transliteration: "Nagi, Shūgeki" (Japanese: ナギ、襲撃) | Kiyoshi Egami | Toshizō Nemoto | Kurio Miyaura | October 7, 2021
Yuito and his platoon make their way back to Suoh, were a state of emergency has been enacted. Tsugumi discovers that New Himuka's forces are on standby and the platoon suddenly realizes why: Nagi has been deployed to kill Yuito and forcibly remove his brain. Unwilling to fight his friend, Yuito lures Nagi to the secret location they used to train back when they were just cadets. Watching this area causes Nagi to struggle against the brainwashed imposed on him by the New Himukan government. Unfortunately, his brain cannot handle the two struggling sides of Nagi's psyche and he dies, but not before apologizing to Yuito for all the trouble he has caused him. Yuito lays Nagi's body to rest in the place they used to train together and makes his way to the OSF's headquarters in order to confront his brother. Once Yuito reaches Kaito's office, he confronts him about Nagi's brainwashing, something to which Kaito was aware of all along. He discards Nagi as a worthless pawn, disgusting Yuito. He is also aware that Yuito's true power is gravikinesis, a power desired by Suoh and the Sumeragi family in an attempt to fulfill Yakumo Sumeragi's dearest wish: to exact vengeance on the lunar humanity. Yakumo was aware that it was the lunar people who created the Extinction Belt, so he swore revenge against them. Even if he himself would not be able to fulfill it, that duty was pass on to his descendants. New Himuka plans to use Yuito's power to move the Extinction Belt and attack the Moon directly. Even if Yuito is unable to move the Extinction Belt all by himself, New Himuka will forcibly connect him to the brains of every single person on New Himuka, increasing his power exponentially. When Luka warns Kaito that civilians will die if such a method is used, Kaito admits that he doesn't care as long as Yakumo's goal is accomplished. Yuito believes that following a wish from a person who died 2,000 years ago is wrong, but Kaito reveals that Yakumo is still alive, kept in suspended animation in the depths of Suoh. Even so, Yuito refuses to willingly partake in genocide, to which Kaito replies that Yuito will no longer be considered a Sumeragi. Yuito doesn't care, however, as he chooses whoever he wants to be and his family name has nothing to do with that. As Yuito's platoon exits Kaito's office, they are surrounded by New Himukan soldiers but Luka teleports them away to safety. Once they're in Wataru's bunker, they are informed by Arashi that she and Wataru were able to gather incriminating evidence on Kaito and the government's actions. Realizing that his brother won't listen to reason, Yuito decides to follow up on Fubuki's original plan: to upload that evidence into Arahabaki for all of New Hiumka to see. Although he feels conflicted over practically destroying everything his own family and New Himuka, he decides that his first and foremost duty is to the truth. Meanwhile, Kasane and her platoon are informed by Haruka that Seiran is moving all of its human-derived Others from their holding facility, a decision authorized by Fubuki.

During her time in captivity, Naomi bonds with Alice, a fellow human-derived Other and they share memories of the people they care about. As Seiran moves the human-derived Others to a testing area for a new weapon, Kasane's platoon races to the location, hoping to save Naomi. Meanwhile, Yuito's platoon enters the upper levels of Arahabaki and begins making its way towards the nearest access point, where they will transmit the information they have gathered to the citizens of New Himuka. Kasane's platoon reaches the testing area, where they discover that the Other will be subjected to a weapon that will brainwash them and turn them into living weapons, a decision authorized by Kaito, not Fubuki. Kaito also orders the assassination of Fubuki, having discovered his betrayal sometime ago. Kasane's platoon attempts to save Naomi and the Others, but things take a turn for the worse when Togetsu gets involved into the fight in an attempt to retrieve Kasane herself. Togetsu's Design Children destroy the OSF's weapons and overwhelm Kasane's platoon, but the human-derived Others are able to slay the Design Children at the cost of their own lives. In her final moments, Naomi urges Kasane to live the life she herself could not have. Meanwhile, Karen has already defeated the assassins targeting Fubuki, but receives a message Alice has died. He teleports to the location and hastily assimilates Kasane's gravikinesis, intending to use it in order to save Alice, no matter the cost. Yuito's platoon, having already reached the access point at Arahabaki, makes the difficult decision to broadcast the message into Suoh's electronic systems, even if that means destroying everything the Sumeragi family has built. As Yuito's platoon tries to exit Arahabaki, Yuito is ambushed by Karen, who begins to assimilate his gravikinesis, the same way he did to Kasane.

Realizing that Karen will attempt to copy Yuito's gravikinsis in order to access the power of the red strings, Kasane's platoon goes to Arahabaki in an attempt to intercept him, but not before Kasane bids farewell to her sister. Meanwhile, Yuito's platoon attempts to protect their commander from Karen, who proves to be too powerful for them and takes control of Arahabaki, using its cables to restrain Yuito's platoon and forcing Yuito to activate his psionic power that opens a portal to the past. As Karen disappears and Kasane's platoon arrives into the scene, they realize that Karen has caused severe brain damage to Yuito. According to Kyoka and Arashi, Karen's use of the red strings is not only causing Yuito to lose his memories but to disappear from time and space, as well. If Yuito fully succumbs to amnesia, he will cease to exist. When Kasane asks if the present soldiers can copy their memories and uploaded them into Yuito's mind to prevent him from disappearing, Kyoka believes that it is possible but it will require a special program that only Arashi can create. Kagero also provides a blueprint on Yuito's brain structure, which he had taken from Togetsu when Yuito and Kasane's platoons travelled there. With Arashi's program completed, the soldiers combine their memories and upload them into Yuito, who regains consciousness but not before he has a vision of both his future self and his mother. The platoons return to the surface and realize that the information uploaded by Yuito's platoon into Arahabaki has already reached the masses, causing the people of New Himuka to lose trust in the government. Suddenly, Fubuki meets up with the platoons and attempts to discuss their next course of action but he collapses due to his injuries.

The platoons take Fubuki to a safehouse, where he makes a recovery and confirms that the Other holding facility was originally built to find a way to help Alice, Hanabi's aunt and Fubuki's fiancée, return to human form. The platoons realize that Karen absorbed the powers of Yuito and Kasane in an attempt to save Alice. With Luka's permission, Fubuki reveals that he used to be childhood friends with Karen, Luka and Alice, who wanted to enlist in the OSF despite her apparent lack of psionic power. Once Fubuki and Alice reached the OSF office, they met Karen and Luka, who had been born as duds and were being used by scientists in an attempt to artificially infuse them with psionic power. In time, Karen awakened his power to copy other people's powers, while Fubuki and Alice joined the OSF. Alice suggested that Karen and Fubuki should become leaders of the OSF; an idea that Karen initially rejected but got Fubuki interested. After several missions together, Karen, Fubuki and Alice were deployed to an area in which the Extinction Belt had reached an extremely low elevation, which meant that close contact with it risked transformation into an Other. While they were ambushed by Others, Karen was almost touched by a beam from the Extinction Beam, but Alice used her powers to contain the beam within herself, transforming into an Other; which forced Karen to incapacitate her. Alice was initially confined to the OSF hospital, but with the help of Spring Pharmaceuticals, Karen and Fubuki were able to move her to a special facility in Seiran that could help her regain her humanity. Unfortunately, the experiments were fruitless and Alice faced a lengthy lockup. Fubuki came to believe that instead of helping Alice, they were merely prolonging her suffering. Fubuki begged Karen to put an end to Alice's suffering, but Karen remained determined to save her at any cost. The platoons come to the conclusion that Karen has already travelled through time but has always failed in saving Alice, meaning that it might be impossible to change history. Even though Karen is a pressing concern, however, the platoons choose to focus on stopping Togetsu by gaining access to its supercomputer, BABE. Fubuki, being connected to both Suoh and Seiran, believes it might be possible for the two factions to agree to ceasefire and confront Togetsu together. For the mission to work, the platoons will have to return to Togetsu, but Kagero has a confession to make: he is the one who killed Yuito's father.
19 | "Kagero's Confession" Transliteration: "Kagerō no Kokuhaku" (Japanese: カゲロウの告白) | Akira Toba | Toshizō Nemoto | Shinji Itadaki | November 4, 2021
Kagero reveals his part in the death of Yuito's father: the truth is that he revealed his role as a double agent for Togetsu to Joe and even offered him the chance to fake his death and give his sons the chance to fix things. However, Joe refused, as he wanted to tell his sons the true will of Yakumo Sumeragi, who never wanted to wage war in the first place. Unfortunately, a swarm of Others attacked Kagero and Joe, who took a fatal blast to the chest. Kasane, who was by Joe's side in his final moments, confirms Kagero's story, but Yuito challenges him to a fight because he wants to get an emotional reaction out of Kagero, which he does when Kagero reveals that he, too, cares about his family. His family on the Moon might be dead, but if Togetsu's plan succeeds, the time they spent together will be erased. Yuito accepts that Kagero is telling the truth and the platoons initiate their infiltration into Togetsu, but not before the platoons observe that Yuito's power has increased exponentially. According to Yuito's squadmates, this is a sign that Yuito's powers will eventually fade, as his brain suffered heavy damage when Karen forcibly connected him to Arahabaki. Yuito decides to put those concerns aside for the sake of the mission and Luka is able to teleport the platoons into BABE's room, which generates a holographic image of a woman that both Yuito and Kasane identify as their mother.
20 | "Together Again" Transliteration: "Saikai" (Japanese: 再会) | Masatoshi Hakada | Akiko Inoue | Shinji Itadaki | November 11, 2021
The woman from the hologram is Wakana, a scientist who defected from Togetsu because of their unethical experiments and went to Suoh for protection. Yuito and Kasane, however, recognize that the woman standing before them is not really Wakana, but an image created by BABE in order to stop them. As the platoons push forward, BABE deliberately shuts itself down, preventing them from gaining any useful information on how to stop the Kunad Gate. Luka suggests that Yuito and Kasane use the red strings in order to travel to the past, to the day where Wakana died at the hands of Others, in order to bring her to present and, hopefully, find another solution. Kasane volunteers to go alone, as it would be too risky for Yuito's past and present selves to meet each other. The attempt to open a portal to the past is successful and Kasane finds Wakana, who was already expecting her, due to BABE having transmitted information from the present to the past. Unfortunately, she confirms that only Yuito's death can stop the Kunad Gate but before she departs with Kasane, she asks her to give Yuito the ear cuff he presently wears. Kasane does so and, in the present, Yuito remembers that it was Kasane who saved his life. After saving Wakana from a Togetsu assassin, Kasane successfully brings Wakana to the present, where they are reunited with Yuito.

Yuito and Kasane get to spend a normal breakfast with their mother before going off in their next mission: fixing the dimensional entanglements that are keeping the Kunad Gate open. For that, Yuito and Kasane must combine their powers to enter the Chronos Terminal, the place in which the red strings intersect with each other, the place Yuito and Kasane were taken into when they first activated the red strings. Once they enter the Chronos Terminal, Yuito and Kasane manually untangle the red strings in 3 separate points in time: the day the Others attacked Suoh, the dark future in which Kasane met the older Yuito and a mysterious date in which Yuito and Kasane find Karen. Once their mission is complete, Yuito and Kasane return to the present, only to find that the Kunad Gate is still open and Wakana reveals that there is still one dimensional entanglement that needs fixing: her own presence in the current timeline. Wakana returns to her time and uploads her brain into BABE's database, but not before expressing how proud she is of her family.

Despite Wakana's efforts, the Kunad Gate remains open in the present. Yuito collapses from overusing his powers, so the platoons take him to a safe house where he can recover. OSF soldiers storm the safe house, but with Wataru's help, the platoons are able to escape. As they attempt to assess the situation, Yuito and Kasane reveal that, while they were inside the Chronos Terminal, they caught a glimpse of Karen assassinating Yakumo Sumeragi, leaving them to believe that Karen might be an ancestor to the current Sumeragi family. Kagero finds that unlikely, as Yakumo had already fathered a child before his death, but admits there is no way of knowing that unless the teams gain access to the Sumeragi Mausoleum. To that end, Yuito plans to talk to his brother, who has been stripped of his authority as chief of the OSF and confined to his house. As the two brothers meet on a secluded street, Kaito still intends to kill Yuito and take his brain, but Yuito reveals that he met their mother and reaffirms his intention to protect the people of New Himuka. Suddenly, the brothers are attacked by a swarm of Others and Kaito confronts them to give Yuito enough time to escape, but not before giving him the key to the Sumeragi Mausoleum. Fortunately, the combined forces of Seiran and Suoh arrive to fight the Others, as Fubuki had already managed to negotiate a ceasefire between them in order to stop Togetsu and end the Kunad Gate crisis. Meanwhile, Karen's attempt to travel to the past is disrupted when the red strings throw him into a desolate city about to be overrun by Others.

As the Others swarm Suoh, the New Himuka government declares a state of emergency and temporarily reinstates Kaito's authority as chief o the OSF. Yuito is sent to a hospital after he exhausts his powers by overuse. New Himuka has determined that Extinction Belt has reached a dangerously low altitude, so closing the Kunad Gate is now the alliance's top priority. Hoping to find answers on how to close the Kunad Gate, Yuito and Kasane's platoons enter the Sumeragi Mausoleum, which is littered with illusions from Karen's past. Despite the psionic backlash from the illusions, the platoons reach the casket of Yakumo Sumeragi and find a still-living Karen inside.

The platoons confront Karen at the Sumeragi Mausoleum and Karen reveals that he attempted to travel 2000 years in the past to absorb the power of Yakumo Sumeragi, a fellow Red Strings user, believing he could use that power to save Alice. Unfortunately, every time he tried to save Alice, he failed, and so he transferred his memories to an alternate version of himself so that version could save Alice in his place. Karen has repeated this process countless times and has become convinced that Alice's fate can be changed. Suddenly, the Karen from the present, the one who copied Yuito and Kasane's powers teleports in front of his past self and demands that the past Karen gives his powers to him. Past Karen attempts to convince his present self that there is no way to save Alice, but present Karen forcibly absorbs his powers and, in the process, acquires a connection to Arahabaki. However, this forces him to experience the memory of every single person connected to Arahabaki, including his own past iterations. Yuito and Kasane force Karen to experience Alice's fondest memory: her desire to become strong for his sake. Unfortunately, this fails to convince Karen to stand down, to the point that he is willing to let the Kunad Gate destroy the world if it means saving Alice. Convinced that his brother will no longer listen to reason, Luka asks his friends to stop Karen and the platoons combine their powers to stand a chance against him.

Fubuki stops the battle and finally convinces Karen to stand down, telling him that Alice would have never wanted him to waste his entire life trying to save her. Karen surrenders and agrees to help the platoons save the world that Alice cherished so much, using the power and memories of Arahabaki to allow the platoons to move the Extinction Belt into the Kunad Gate, causing it to be destroyed. Yuito nearly collapses in this operation, but after catching a glimpse of Alice with the red strings, the plan is successful, and the Extinction Belt is consumed by the Kunad Gate. They close the gate, however, the final entanglement, Karen's own meddling with the timestream must be corrected. To do that, Karen uses the red strings to remove himself from history as a whole, which successfully closes the gate and saves the world, but as a side-effect, Alice herself is resurrected, having no memory of who Karen is.

The Kunad Gate and the Extinction Belt have been destroyed, but the conflict between Seiran and Suoh continues and the Others are still a threat, meaning that the OSF is more needed than ever to maintain order. Shiden and Luka have been respectively promoted to squad commander and regiment commander, while Fubuki and Alice resume their plans to get married. Kyoka and Kagero, who has revealed his true name to be Shin Daniel, have been reassigned to help the OSF dismantle the Togetsu faith and join a moon exploration project, alongside Kasane. Kaito has been imprisoned and will be awaiting trial for crimes against humanity, but Yuito, having formally resigned from the OSF, plans to become a politician in order to help create a world where psionic users and duds can live together in peace. Unfortunately, Karen's use of the red strings to save Alice from oblivion has erased him from everyone's memories, with only Yuito and Kasane left to remember him. Even so, Yuito, Kasane and their friends are determined to keep protecting the world they fought so hard to save. |
