  1. ^ a b The team was led by seventh-year head coach Charlie Tate until he resigned after the first two games of the season. Walt Kichefski took over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
  2. ^ a b The Big East did not crown an official champion until 1993 when full league play began.
  3. ^ The Hurricanes served a one-year bowl ban due to NCAA sanctions that were levied at the end of the season.
