It covers an area of 867.58 km2, and had a population of 28,944 at the 2010 Census[2] and 37,050 at the 2020 Census;[3] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 41,520 (comprising 21,010 males and 20,510 females).[1] The administrative centre lies at the town of Langara.
Administration
[edit]Konawe Islands Regency, which is coincident with Wawonii Island, is divided into seven districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their areas and their populations at the 2010 Census[2] and 2020 Census,[3] together with the official estimates as at mid 2023.[1] The mid-2023 estimates are significantly altered from those for previous years, for reasons unexplained.
The table also includes the locations of the district administrative centres, the number of villages in each district (comprising 89 rural desa and 7 urban kelurahan - the latter being the district administrative centre in each of the districts except in Wawonii Barat District, where the kelurahan is Langara Laut rather than Langara Iwawo), and its post code.
