Kiryu (Japanese: 機龍, Hepburn: Kiryū, lit. Machine Dragon)[1] also known as Mechagodzilla (Japanese: メカゴジラ, Hepburn: Mekagojira) is a mecha created by Toho that first appeared in the 2002 Godzilla film, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. He is a version of Mechagodzilla created from the remains of the original Godzilla.

[edit]The events of Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002) and Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003) have been nicknamed the "Kiryu era" after Kiryu's appearance.[2]
