Later in his career, Aktürkoğlu claimed in a interview that "four years of his life were stolen" at Başakşehir, there was an "hierarchy" led by Abdullah Avcı and Emre Belözoğlu, where older footballers had established authority over young players, and limit their first-team oppurtunities, leading him to be on the verge of quitting football, but his family convinced him to continue his career.[3][4]
At Karacabey, Aktürkoğlu began featuring regularly for his new team, playing a total of 35 matches throughout the season, contributing to three goals and two assists. On 16 August, Aktürkoğlu was involved in a physical altercation with teammate Marcão during a game against Giresunspor.[11] The fight was broken up by their teammates, before the referee of the match, Erkan Özdamar, who watched the situation after the warning of the video assistant referee sent-off Marcão. Unable to continue playing three minutes after the incident, Aktürkoğlu was taken off the field by manager Fatih Terim.[12][13] Two days later, the club announced that Marcão had been suspended from the squad indefinitely and he was later fined and suspended for eight-matches by the Turkish Football Federation. Before Galatasaray training started on 9 September, Marcão publicly apologized to Aktürkoğlu again in front of the entire team, with the solving their issues.[14]

However, Galatasaray ended the season in a disappointing 13th place, failing to qualify to any European competition.[17][18][19]

His run of form continued in January 2023, scoring the second goal, assisted by Icardi, in a 3–0 home win against Fenerbahçe in the intercontinental derby on 8 January, followed by a goal in a 4–0 win against Hatayspor on 13 January, and an assist against Antalyaspor in 2–1 home win on 21 January.[22][23]

Player profile
[edit]Style of play
[edit]Primarily operating as a left winger, he has successfully adapted to various roles during his career, including attacking midfielder, or even as a second striker, he excels in one-on-one situations, using sharp dribbling and quick changes of direction to outmaneuver defenders. His agility and precise ball control allow him to create opportunities in tight spaces, either by cutting inside to shoot or delivering incisive passes. His ability to exploit defensive gaps makes him a dynamic and unpredictable threat, turning neutral situations into goal-scoring chances. A key aspect of his play is his pace and effectiveness in transitions. He is a constant threat on the counter attack, stretching defenses with his speed and delivering accurate crosses from the flank, often utilizing both feet. His courage and ability to step up in crucial moments highlight his leadership qualities.[47][48][49]
Goal celebration
[edit]Aktürkoğlu has adopted a particular goalscoring celebration throughout his career: He started his Expelliarmus goal celebration as a direct response to the nickname "Kerem Potter", which fans affectionately gave him. The nickname emerged in July 2021, when Aktürkoğlu posted a picture of himself on Instagram wearing round glasses and Galatasaray’s red and yellow kit, resembling Harry Potter's Gryffindor uniform. Fans flooded his comments with wand and lightning emojis, drawing comparisons to the fictional wizard. Recognizing the humor and creativity of his fans, Aktürkoğlu embraced the persona by engaging with the theme. The celebration debuted on 25 December 2021, during a crucial match against Fenerbahçe. After scoring, Aktürkoğlu mimicked casting a spell by waving an imaginary wand in the air, directly referencing the Harry Potter series’ iconic “Expelliarmus” spell. The gesture delighted fans and solidified his "Kerem Potter" identity, with commentators even referring to him as “the magician” during games.[50][51]
