Premise

[edit]

Does the idea of a perfect life leading to love, marriage and babies exist? Shriya finds it a challenge, especially when she meets men like Siddharth "Sid" who think marriage is a recipe for disaster, and babies should be banned. When times are changing and relationships are evolving, the idea of love remains timeless--the more you resist it the more you will fall in love.

Development

[edit]

Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi revealed that the inspiration for 'Kadhalikka Neramillai' stemmed from a conversation with her friends. She was surprised to learn about their unconventional relationship, which sparked the idea for a romantic comedy-drama. She believes that this film reflects the evolving relationship dynamics and choices of people today, particularly relevant to women. [1]

After completing the script, Kiruthiga envisioned Nithya Menen for the lead role, influenced by her performance in Thiruchitrambalam. After narrating the story to Nithya, she readily agreed. Kiruthiga then informed Jayam Ravi of Menen's agreement, and he expressed his willingness to read the script.[2]

After the release of Ponniyin Selvan: II in 2023, it was reported that Jayam Ravi's next project would be helmed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, accompanied by the actor pairing opposite Nithya Menen for the first time.[3] Tentatively titled JR33, the project would be funded by Kiruthiga's husband, Udhayanidhi Stalin's, production house Red Giant Movies.[4] Menen confirmed the project, along with her presence in it that October,[5] whilst the company made a public announcement on 29 November, confirming the project,[6] and the official title Kaadhalikka Neramillai was announced the same day.[7]

Interestingly, the filmmaker describes her film as an evolution of O Kadhal Kanmani, which also stars Nithya Menen. She adds, “Several women are not just abstaining from marriage, but are also questioning whether to bring a child into this world. We explore these subjects without being preachy.”[8]
