Jonathan J. Breene is an Australian-American businessman involved in the real estate and hospitality industries.

Along with Adrian Zecha, he is the Co-Founder of Mahaman, a company specializing in the creation of ultra-luxury residential and boutique hotel properties [1][2][3]

Education

Breene completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Queensland - Gatton College in Australia, where he earned a Bachelor of Business in Real Estate Appraisal. He graduated with a master's degree in construction & project management from Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, and later obtained a master's in real estate development from Columbia University in New York City.[4]

Career

Breene began his career as an executive at Millennium Partners, a New York-based developer who developed The Ritz Carlton on Central Park South & Battery Park, New York City; Ritz Carlton Hotel & Residences in Boston & Washington and the Four Seasons Hotel & Residences in Miami and San Francisco.[5][6]

Breene along with business partner, John Conroy was the developer of The Vendome, an ultra luxury condominium tower located on Turtle Creek Boulevard, Dallas, Texas.

He is also the Co-Founder of The Setai,[7][8] an ultra luxury hotel & residential condominium tower in South Beach, Miami and also The Setai at 40 Broad Street, New York City.[9][10][11]

In addition, he has played a role in the planning and development of luxury projects around the world. Among these is Amanyara, a resort in Turks & Caicos. He was also involved in the development of Norman's Cay, a private island in the Exumas, Bahamas, and a beachfront hotel and villa project in Jose Ignacio, Punta del Este.[12][13][14]

Collaborations with Adrian Zecha

Breene's first collaboration with Adrian Zecha was in 1999 at The Setai, Miami Beach, located in Miami's South Beach neighborhood. The hotel and residential project was designed by Jean Michel Gathy.

Mr. Zecha and Mr. Breene are also Co-Founders of Mahaman, an ultra luxury real estate and hospitality management & development company.

Mahaman owns the Azotels Collection which operates high-end hospitality resorts such as Azerai in Vietnam and Azumi in Japan.[15]

In addition, Zecha and Breene Co-Founded MAHA, a luxury residential, private club and hotel brand. The first MAHA property was completed in Beijing, China and includes a luxury condominium building and private club.[16]

Currently, they are partnering on The Guenoc Valley Project, a 23,000-acre property straddling Lake County and Napa County in California. This project aims to develop luxury villas, resorts, a village, winery, a polo & equestrian club, a golf course designed by Tom Doak and a Tadao Ando museum & cultural center.[17]

Philanthropy and Other Roles

Breene served on the Board of Trustees of International House, New York, a nonprofit residence for international students.[18]

He was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Bravery Medal.[19]Breene currently serves on the USA Board of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
