John Hiestand (January 16, 1907 – February 5, 1987) was an American actor and announcer.[1]
Early life
[edit]John Hiestand was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1907. He graduated from Stanford University in 1930.
Career
[edit]Hiestand started his career appearing in radio during the 1930s, appearing in radio shows including Amos 'n' Andy and The Fred Allen Show. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Office of War Information producing The Philippine Hour and he became chief of theater operations in the Southwest Pacific. After the war, Hiestand appeared in numerous radio shows like The Kay Kisher Show, The Great Gildersleeve and The Mel Blanc Show.[1] He also appeared in film and television, appearing in Two Against the World, Stage Struck, Black Legion, Mountain Justice, A Day at the Races, Over the Wall, Kentucky Moonshine, Wyoming Outlaw, Second Fiddle, The Great Profile, Rise and Shine, My Favorite Blonde, Riding High, The Hucksters, The Stratton Story, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Hell and High Water among others. On television, he appeared in TV series like Gangbusters, The Public Defender, Telephone Time, Frontier Doctor, Surfside 6, Hazel, Bewitched, The Bold Ones, Temperatures Rising and The Waltons among others.[2]
Personal life
[edit]Hiestand married actress Jeane Wood, and after this marriage ended he married actress Jeane McGee in 1953. They had one son and this marriage lasted until his death in 1987.
