John Hartley (born 1993) is a British writer from Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire.

Tolkien test for AI

In his 3 Quarks Daily column, Hartley introduced the Tolkien test for Artificial Intelligence as a means of determining the creative capacity of machines to generate original creative content, applicable to Large Language Models.[1]
