Choi Yun-jin (Korean: 최윤진; born April 16, 2004),[1] known professionally as Jini (stylized in all caps; Korean: 지니) and formerly romanized as Jinni, is a South Korean singer. She debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group Nmixx in February 2022. Following her departure from the ensemble and JYP Entertainment on December 9, 2022, she joined ATOC as a solo artist.[2]
Early life
[edit]Jini was born on April 16, 2004, as Choi Yun-jin, in Busan, South Korea.[2]
Career
[edit]Pre-debut
[edit]Jini joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee in 2016.[3] In 2019, she appeared in 2PM's Nichkhun's music video for his solo debut song "Lucky Charm".[3] On August 6, 2021, Jini, along with Jiwoo and Kyujin, were revealed as the first three members of Nmixx (then known as "JYPn"), through a dance performance video.[4]
2022: Debut with Nmixx and departure from the group
[edit]Jini officially debuted with the group on February 22, 2022, with their debut single album Ad Mare alongside the lead single "O.O".[5] On December 9, JYP Entertainment announced that she would be departing from Nmixx for personal reasons and her contract with the agency has been terminated.[2][6]
2023–present: Solo activities, joining ATOC and solo debut
[edit]On April 14, 2023, it was reported by news media that Jini had signed an exclusive contract with ATOC (formerly called UAP),[7][8] and that they had signed a management MOU collaboration with Sublime to manage her acting activities, which was later confirmed by Sublime.[9] On September 14, ATOC announced she would be making her solo debut with An Iron Hand in a Velvet Glove on October 11.[10][11]
Endorsement
[edit]In September 2023, Jini became the new muse for the skincare brand Mixsoon.[12]
