Los Angeles Angels
[edit]On November 17, 2020, Díaz signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels.[6] He split the 2021 minor league season between the Rocket City Trash Pandas and the Salt Lake Bees, going a combined 5–6 with a 4.01 ERA and 92 strikeouts over 76+1⁄3 innings.[2]
On September 17, 2021, Díaz contract was selected to the 40-man roster and he was promoted to the major leagues for the first time.[7] He made his MLB debut that night versus the Oakland Athletics.[8] In 3 appearances during his debut campaign, he allowed 6 runs on 11 hits with 9 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched.
In 2022, Díaz spent the majority of the season in Triple–A with Salt Lake. In 4 games (3 starts) for the Angels, he recorded a 2.93 ERA with 11 strikeouts across 15+1⁄3 innings of work. On November 18, 2022, Díaz was designated for assignment by the Angels;[9] he was non–tendered by the team the same day, and became a free agent.[10]
On December 15, 2022, Díaz re–signed with the Angels on a minor league contract. In 38 appearances for Triple–A Salt Lake, he registered a 9–2 record and 4.55 ERA with 79 strikeouts in 87.0 innings of work. On September 7, 2023, the Angels selected Díaz's contract, adding him to the major league roster.[11] In 4 appearances for the team, he struggled to a 10.29 ERA with 4 strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. Following the season on October 16, Díaz was removed from the 40–man roster and sent outright to Triple–A Salt Lake.[12] He elected free agency following the season on November 6.[13]
Seattle Mariners
[edit]On January 9, 2024, Díaz signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners.[14] On May 22, the Mariners added Díaz to their 40–man roster and optioned him back to the Triple–A Tacoma Rainiers. The transaction was performed to prevent Díaz from exercising the opt–out clause in his contract.[15] On June 11, Díaz got the call up and is making his season debut via an emergency start.[16]
