A native of Pelham and graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, Jeremy Bonomo is an American soccer coach who currently coaches the Northeastern Huskies men's soccer program. He is going on his 1st season as the head coach of Northeastern. He is hired as the 8th head coach in the history of Northeastern's men's soccer program. Bonomo had previously coached the Green Bay Phoenix,[4] the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay programs.[5] His teams won the Horizon League title in 2023. He led his squad to the NCAA Division I Soccer Tournament in 2023.[6] Bonomo worked as an assistant coach for Southern New Hampshire University and University of Cincinnati for five years. Bonomo played soccer at Southern New Hampshire University, graduating in 2002 with a bachelor of science in Business Administration. At Southern New Hampshire, he earned two league championships. Bonomo also played in the USL Premier Development League for both Cape Code Crusaders and Western Mass Pioneers. He holds United States Soccer Federation `A' License.[7]
Style of coaching
[edit]Bonomo’s philosophy is built on a solid defensive foundation.[8] Bonomo values discipline and physical fitness.
Tactically, Bonomo deploys a 4–2–3–1 with two holding midfielders and attacking full-backs. The full-backs play a crucial role in both defense and attack and the two holding midfielders provide support to the attacking players.
His team sits compact and forces the opposition into making mistakes. Bonomo's team uses direct possession apporoach, bypassing the midfield to the forward and using a low number of passes to a goal.
