Jean-Jacques Brot (January 27, 1956, Paris) is a senior French civil servant. He is prefect of Yvelines from April 4, 2018, to March 4, 2024.
He is known for having been in charge of the coordination mission for the reception of Syrian and Iraqi refugees under the Director General of Foreigners in France from 2015 to 2017 (refugees from the Syrian civil war).
Biography
[edit]After secondary studies at the Lycée Buffon and Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris, Jean-Jacques Brot then graduated from HEC Paris (1977) and Sciences Po (1979).[1]
Jean-Jacques Brot graduated from the École nationale d'administration in 1983.[2]
Upon leaving the École nationale d'administration, Jean-Jacques Brot joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. He held the position of second and then first secretary at the French Embassy in Japan from 1983 to 1986.[3]
He joined the prefectural body in 1988, in which he was made prefect in 2004.[4]
Between 2002 and 2010, he was successively prefect of Mayotte, Deux-Sèvres, Guadeloupe and Eure-et-Loir. Appointed prefect of Vendée on February 15, 2010, he had to face, a few days after his arrival in the department, the tragedy caused by cyclone Xynthia in the communes of La Faute-sur-Mer and L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer.[5]
He was then appointed prefect of Finistère in 2011 until 2013.[6]
He was prefect of Yvelines from April 4, 2018, until March 2024.[7]
Awards
[edit]- Officer of the Legion of Honour. He was knighted on December 31, 2002, and was promoted to officer on March 29, 2013.[8]
- Commander of the Ordre national du Mérite. He was knighted on November 10, 199839, he was promoted to officer on May 7, 2007, and was made commander on November 25, 2021.[9]
