James Zug (born 1969) is an American writer. He is the author of six books.
Life
[edit]He was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has written for national magazines and newspapers, as well as for publications in Africa, the Middle East and Europe. He has written for The Daily Beast[1] and for a time had a weekly blog on squash, the game, for Vanity Fair's online edition.[2] A former reader at The Paris Review, he is a senior writer at Squash Magazine.[3]
Zug has written an obituary on a South African communist;[4] a review of a travel book on Siberia;[5] a magazine article on the last player of an obscure racquet sport;[6] an essay on Quaker education;[7] an appreciation for Doris Lessing's forgotten first novel;[8] and an interview with a groundhog handler in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. His latest book is about a coach who has overcome tremendous adversity to lead his team to the all-time collegiate record for consecutive win streaks.
His fiction has appeared in the anthology Stress City: A Big Book of Fiction By 51 DC Guys (Paycock Press, 2008) ISBN 978-0-931181-27-6. He also appeared in South Africa's Resistance Press: Alternative Voices in the Last Generation Under Apartheid (Ohio University, 2000) ISBN 978-0-89680-213-1.
He lives in Wilmington, Delaware, with his wife.
