"It Girl" is a song by English singer Jade. The track was released on 10 January 2025, through RCA Records.
Background and release
[edit]The song, initially teased without a title, was given the name "It Girl" by fans. She would later announce in a social media post the song's name change due to fan demand,[1] after initially giving it the title "That's Showbiz, Baby".[2] Preceding the song's release, Thirlwall described the song throughout various interviews as the "cunty little sister" of "Angel of My Dreams".[3][4][5] On 16 December 2024, she announced the release of the single, alongside a pre-save link.[6]
Reception
[edit]During an early listening session, The Face Magazine described the song, as "Angel of My Dreams' more crystallised, clubrat sister".[7] Annabel Nugent of The Independent described it as "a hard and fast electro-pop bop about being poked and prodded, papped and penalised as a woman in the spotlight".[3] Shahzaib Hussain of Clash Magazine described "It Girl" as "a melodramatic anthem whereby Jade purges her own experience being exploited as a pliable, young female artist."[4] In a piece for The Independent, Annabel Nugent wrote the song "is a hard and fast electro-pop bop about being poked and prodded, papped and penalised as a woman in the spotlight. Like all her solo outings so far, "IT Girl" is boisterous and elastic, testing the limits of pop music as well as any expectations we might’ve had."[8]
Promotion
[edit]A snippet would be briefly teased on the visualizer for "Midnight Cowboy". She would once again play snippets of the song at surprise club appearances throughout the rest of 2024.[9] The song's release date and cover would eventually be announced on 3 January 2025 in a social media post, accompanied by a visual snippet.[10]
Music video
[edit]The music video for "It Girl" was filmed in London in 2024. Among the filming locations were Piccadilly Circus and Soho.[11] The video will premiere on 10 January 2025 at 10am GMT (UTC+00:00).[12]
