IAFL-2 is the third tier of American football in Ireland.[needs update] The league was founded in 2014 with the Tyrone Titans winning the inaugural competition.[2]

Like the Premier League (tier 1) and IAFL-1 (tier 2), the league has previously been contested by teams from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.[citation needed]

The aim of the IAFL-2 Conference is for new teams entering the sport. The IAFL-2 Conference is a more controlled environment than the SBC and IAFL-1 conferences,[how?] which gives new clubs the chance to build their team and organisation while still playing football at a competitive level.[how?] The winner of the IAFL-2 Conference can progress to the IAFL-1 conference [3]

The 2016 champions were the Donegal/Derry Vipers.[4][1]

As of 2016, the league consisted of five teams with the top two meeting in a "Playoff Bowl" game in the post season. This game is referred to as IAFL-2 Bowl.[citation needed] Historically, both teams that appeared in the IAFL-2 Bowl were promoted to IAFL-1.[citation needed] The teams that contested the 2016 season included:[5]
