Hemanta Kumar Jamatia is a Tripuri folk singer, songwriter, composer and politician.[1] He is a member of the Communist Party of India and the Secretary of the party's Teliamura committee.[2][3] He received the 1996 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for folk and tribal music.[4][5]

Biography

Already a musician at 14, Jamatia joined the Tripura National Volunteers (TNV), a militant group.[6] He left the group in 1983.[7]
