[edit]Eh?
[edit]This so-called help page is gobbledigook. Can someone please improve the opening paragraphs in particular? --Dweller 22:14, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Could someone familiar with the intent, update this to make the terms here match the terms on the "File" page, if that's the intent? This help page starts out talking about a "File page" but then says what is on a "description page." Wikipedia is full of subtle distinctions, but are these different concepts? I'm pretty clear that the title here "File Links," must mean "File Usage" on the actual page. The model "Image" page has "Summary" and "Licensing" sections, but the recommendations here are for sections titled "File description, File summary, Image summary, Copyright information, Relevant links (internal), Other versions." It makes me wonder if this is the right help file.Numbersinstitute (talk) 16:43, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Standard editing
[edit]I have seen headers in fair use rationale that has quotes in the article they are being used - like "Article Name". What's the right? With quotes or not? BritandBeyonce (talk•contribs) 09:35, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think it is better to use quotes but I may be wrong here. --Siva1979Talk to me 10:40, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
How do you edit the layout of pictures vs. text?...
[edit]Specifically, how do you fix up the overlap between a picture and nearby text (not the picture caption, but regular article text)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.101.158.117 (talk) 23:53, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
- Try shrinking the picture size. I don't think this is a very common problem though, it must vary from case to case. -- Kndimov (talk) 22:28, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
Image description page, er, description
[edit]Regarding the statement: "for an image in a template it lists only the template, not the pages in which the template occurs", is this currently true? Seems to me that for templates such as Userboxes and Wikiproject notices, the image is cited for each page on which the template appears. Steamroller Assault (talk) 02:28, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- I fully agree. Just take a look at File:Edit-clear.svg to see that this is incorrect. Adrignola (talk) 16:50, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed. Finally! Gareth Aus (talk) 04:40, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Where to place image maintenance templates?
[edit]I notice there's no guidance on where to place file maintenance templates on the image description page. Perhaps someone should add this? -- Ϫ 08:19, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not convinced all of this edit is an improvement - some things were deleted which might be better kept, eg the summary of the image description page. Rd232 talk 09:28, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Way Too Complicated
[edit]This whole page is far too complicated. How do I find out is a picture is fair use or free? I have no idea after reading through these pages. This should be right out front and easy to find, but it isn't.
50.16.18.34 (talk) 08:52, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
- Read Wikipedia:Non-free content. If you want to ask whether a specific picture is free or not, try Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- Ϫ 14:05, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Help:File page → Help:File description page – Almost all references to this (e.g. in speedy deletion criteria, at FFD, etc) refer to this nowadays as a file description page. – Train2104 (t • c) 17:18, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
- Support per nom. It is rather ambiguous now, particularly without the context. No such user (talk) 12:13, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
