Harcourt Butler Senior Secondary School, is a Delhi Govt aided boys school at Mandir Marg (earlier known as Reading Road) in Delhi, India.[1] The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.[2] It provides education in English and Hindi medium.

History

The year of foundation of this school is 1889. The school was earlier known as Bengali Boys School, it was set up by a Bengali society.

In 1917, the British government took over its control and started funding its operations for the wards of British India Government employees. The existing structure of Harcourt Butler School was set up by Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler in 1917. Sir Spencer was the first member of education in the Viceroy’s Executive Council in India.[3]

In winter School ran 6 months in Delhi and in summers 6 months in Shimla. This practice was discontinued in 1939 due to the Second World War.
