HM Prison Highland

HM Prison Highland is a prison under construction in the Highlands of Scotland.[1] It will replace HM Prison Inverness.

History

In November 2022, the price of construction rose to £140m.[2] By 2024, the cost rose past 200 million pounds.[3] This is over four times the original cost.[4]

In August 2024, construction workers uncovered a 2,000 prehistoric settlement.[5] The opening date was pushed back to 2026 in 2024.[6]
