The grey brotula[1][4] or orange cuskeel[5] (Bidenichthys consobrinus) is a rare species of viviparous brotula found around northern New Zealand.[1][4] It inhabits rocky reef areas down to 30 m depth.[1]
IUCN[1] and the Catalog of Fishes[6] consider Bidenichthys beeblebroxi a synonym of Bidenichthys consobrinus.
