Giorgio Diana (born 27 September 1936) is an Italian engineer, academic, writer, from 1980 full professor of Applied Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Milan.[2][3]

[edit]In 1961 Giorgio Diana graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnic University of Milan, Italy.[2]

- Designer of the Strait of Messina Bridge for the aspects related to aeroelastics and the road-rail passability of the bridge;
- Aerodynamic and aeroelastic analysis for the projects of the Stonecutters Bridge (Hong-Kong), Talavera (Spain), Adige (Italy);
- Analysis of wind-induced vibrations and design of damping systems for some of the largest overhead power lines in the world, including: Orinoco Crossing (Venezuela), Lake Maracaibo Crossing (Venezuela), Gheshm Strait Crossing (Iran), Yangtze River Crossing (China);
- Analysis of wind-induced vibrations on cables and design of damping systems for the British Airways London Eye (UK), Beijing Great Wheel (China), Great Berlin Wheel (Germany) projects;
- Aerodynamic and/or aeroelastic study for the Pinacoteca Lingotto (Turin), Tre Torri (Milan), Varesine (Milan), Rho Fiera (Milan), Juventus Stadium (Turin), Braga Stadium (Portugal) projects;
- Optimization of sail plans for the Oracle America's Cup team (USA), 2008–2009;
- Railway passability of bridges and viaducts for the Italian High Speed railway lines;
- Railway passability of bridges and viaducts for the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway line;
- Analysis of the running stability (runnability or railway passability) and optimization of performance for high-speed railway vehicles, in collaboration with AnsaldoBreda, Fiat Ferroviaria, Bombardier Transportation, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, Contact S.p.A
