The Leibniz Institute for Educational Media | Georg Eckert Institute (GEI) is a non-university research institute focusing on international textbook and educational media research.[3] The institute was founded in 1975 and belongs to the Leibniz Association.

- Explores the socio-political implications of the educational technologies used in schools
- ‘Human-Centred Technologies for Educational Media (MTB)’
- Researches and develops digital infrastructures and tools for use in international educational media research, which are based in the department's own research as well as on data and findings from the institute's other departments
- ‘Knowledge in Transition’
- Researches knowledge presented in textbooks as an indicator and factor of social change
