GeoFS (previously known as GEFS-online) is a free French multi-platform browser-based multiplayer flight simulator based on the Cesium WebGL Virtual Globe. The game contains multiple aircraft, including several user contributed aircraft.[2]

The SD resolution is based on images provided by the Sentinel-2 satellite. Starting from a 2024 update (version 3.9), "Super Resolution images" are now provided by the Allen Institute for AI as part of the Satlas program as the default resolution. These AI enhanced images have been reprocessed from Sentinel-2 and NAIP satellite images to reach a resolution of 1 meter per pixel.[3]

Development

[edit]

Created by Xavier Tassin, GeoFS was launched as GEFS-Online version 0.1 using a Google Earth plug-in on October 1 2010. The game's predecessor, Sportstar Simulator, featured the still available Evektor Sportstar.[4] On September 1, 2015, support for the Google Earth plugin ended,[5] which nearly resulted in GEFS closing.[6] In January 2016, after the termination of the Google Earth plugin, GeoFS migrated to CesiumJS, an open source virtual globe platform.[7]
