In 1983, he graduated from the Mechanical Department of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He completed his dissertation on "Research and development of an industrial complex for the production and sale of gas motor fuel".[1]

Career

[edit]

Upon graduation, he worked in the USSR oil and gas science institutions and was honored with the academic degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences. He also worked in industries and participated in the development and creation of the first multi-fuel refueling complexes for motor vehicles in Russia, a network of gas-filling stations compliant with international environmental standards, mobile gas stations, and the development of gas cylinder equipment on methane under pressure of 32 MPa.

He went on to write a number of books, brochures, scientific articles, and monographs.

Since 2011, Rovner has been a composer and performer of symphonic music. His professional debut as a composer took place with the release and distribution of the vinyl record Tanaya. Tanaya is based on a full-scale symphonic work, which is a concerto for piano and orchestra. Rovner's alma mater, Gubkin University, holds musical events for their students with his help.[2]

In 2015, Rovner participated in the organization of the India Inside project – a music album recorded by musicians from leading Russian symphony orchestras, as well as well-known British and Indian musicians. Haydn Bendall served as sound producer, and Sergei Smolin also produced the project. The project involved over 300 performers from all over the world, including two symphony orchestras, a Jewish choir, jazz musicians and other performers, who worked at six studios – in Moscow (Mosfilm), London (Real World Studios, AIR Studios, Strongroom Music Studios, Metropolis) and Mumbai (Yash Raj Films). A documentary of the same name was filmed, based on the materials of the project and on Rovner's symphonic work (directed by Alexander Smirnov, director of photography Valery Osmakov).[3]

In the spring of 2020, a limited edition vinyl record called Tesseract was released in Germany. It is based on the music of Gennady Rovner, improvised and performed by jazz pianist Leonid Chizhik.

Rovner's composition Metamorphosis consists of 9 symphonic novellas. In 2021, the eponymous music album was recorded at the LenDoc studio in St. Petersburg, by the Northern Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo. In 2023, Metamorphosis was performed by the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev, with vocals by Alina Yarovaya.[4][5][6] In 2024, Metamorphosis premiered on the Kultura TV channel.
