Determining whether a waterfall is a result of speech or music is easy for you, difficult for me

[edit]

You say "speech and music show different patterns of frequency vs. time." You provide an image with examples, but you don't tell us which signal is which.

The center signal, more intermittent in nature, suggests speech. The more continual modulations of the right and left signals are more consistent with pop music, which by its commercial nature is almost required to avoid "empty split seconds," else listeners might tune away. But Classical also qualifies as music, and is replete with quiet moments (in between the canon fire) which can also provide moments when the signal is not modulated.

To suggest we can identify the content (such as Classical vs. Voice) by looking at its waterfall begs for a sentence or two to specify just what those identifying characteristics are. Thanks, Nei1 (talk) 19:59, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
