The sound is wrong. I am Persian native speaker and we have in our language also the gain sound, but it is not like on this record. --87.78.196.93 (talk) 10:41, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This sound is not used in Persian. Maybe you're looking for glottal stop ?--90.179.235.249 (talk) 01:41, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure you check Commons talk page of the file (commons:File talk:Voiced pharyngeal fricative.ogg). --Mahmudmasri (talk) 19:21, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The latest version is noticeably wrong

[edit]

The consonant in this sound file is Voiced velar fricative [ɣ], but it's supposed to be Voiced pharyngeal fricative [ʕ]. Most of the previous versions of the file contain the right sound (like this one). Arabic uses both of these sounds heavily (I'm a native speaker) and they're very distinguishable to Arabic speakers. in the Semitic abjads [ɣ] corresponds to Ghayn and [ʕ] corresponds to Ayin. @Nardog: Can you rename this file to Voiced pharyngeal fricative (incorrect).ogg and bring the correct version that you keep reverting away (due to a rule or whatever) as the file named like this? Whatever this sound is, it does not match the label. Guherto (talk) 20:10, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have such an authority. Besides, renaming the file does nothing to prevent it from being used. Just upload the correct version as a new file and convert links to this file. Nardog (talk) 07:16, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Nardog The link appears to be automatic from the sound's name. I can't find where the link is made from the wiki page. So it needs to be renamed, I will have to ask someone with authority. Guherto (talk) 13:58, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is not. It's defined in Module:IPA/data. So if you want to change what that article shows as the audio illustration, upload it as a new file and edit the module. You may request that the file be renamed if it's inaccurate, but just renaming it will do nothing to prevent it from being used in articles. Nardog (talk) 14:00, 10 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
