The Suriname FA has news of the draw for the Caribbean section of the CONCACAF qualifying on their site. I've updated the main page for 2011 World Cup Qualification with the draw details. At the very least, it's another 17 countries to put in dark blue. I think it's pretty safe to say that the USA, Canada and Mexico will definitely be entering, and I think Jamaica may well receive a bye to the CONCACAF final stage because of their Top 4 placing at the last CONCACAF tournament - this may explain their unusual absence from the CFU draw. Of course, CONCACAF has nothing about it on their site, and neither does CFU. Seems they have just released details to the Caribbean FAs concerned, and the Suriname FA seems to be the only one who has made the information public.
17 entries as per CFU draw: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands, United States Virgin Islands 92.11.148.118 (talk) 19:58, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- As always, the issue comes down to an interpretation of what wikipedia should say. I fully agree that the USA etc will enter - it is inconceivable that they wouldn't. I also expect Jamaica have a bye to the Gold Cup final. But, what I "reckon" is not really relevant for an encyclopaedia - I need sources to prove it. I'm not even sure that it has been officially written that the Gold Cup is the qualification tournament (though I have no doubt it will be). Jlsa (talk) 23:30, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
Agreed about USA, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, I wasn't suggesting you add these countries. I was merely stating that the Caribbean section of the qualifying has been drawn (and it does, officially, form part of the qualification for the 2011 World Cup), so the 17 countries who have entered should be put on the map. http://www.svb.sr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=491&Itemid=36 - Suriname FA published the draw for the Caribbean Zone, also stating that it was part of the World Cup qualification. I have received correspondence from both the St.Vincent & the Grenadines FA and the Antigua & Barbuda FA regarding the dates for their groups. There are also many references in Guyanese news of the buildup matches for the Guyana women's team for the 2011 World Cup qualifiers. The individual FAs are official sources - though some may think that it must be announced by CFU or CONCACAF first, but in the end, a CONCACAF or CFU announcement is down to the individual who updates the website, and this might not be priority news right now. From experience, in the Caribbean at least, CONCACAF is one of the last sources to divulge the information. Draws for the Digicel Cup, etc are usually given to the FAs by the CFU, and e-mailing the FAs concerned is usually the best way to get the information before CONCACAF gets round to doing it.
