English: Billon trachy of en:John Komnenos Doukas, Emperor of Thessalonica, ca. 1237-1242. Original description: John Comnenus-Ducas. As emperor of Thessalonica, 1237-1242. BI Trachy (23mm, 1.60 g, 6h). Thessalonica mint. Four-winged angel standing facing, with arms outstretched; Α/Ν/K/Є/Λ/O/I to left, X/Υ/PI/(OΥ) (ΝΚ instead of ΓΓ, X instead of K, P retrograde) / John, holding akakia, and St. Demetrius, holding sword, standing facing, supporting sword between them; IωANNIC ΔЄC[ΠΟΤΗC] to left, O[AΓIOC ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟC] to right. DOC –; CLBC 14.14.3 (R5); D. M. Metcalf, “The Peter and Paul Hoard: Bulgarian and Latin imitative trachea in the time of Ivan Asen II,” NumChron (1973), 1106, pl. 11, 117 = Lianta 405 (but misdescribed and with incorrect citations); SB –.
