Summary
[edit]Cover of The Cowboys, Volume 1 of the Time Life Books series The Old West, partially depicting the 1902 painting "The Cowboy" by Frederic Remington. Sourced from http://www.volumelists.com/detail.php?ser=The%20Old%20West
Fair use rationale for The Old West
[edit]The use of this book cover in this article I, bttfvgo, believe to be fair use though the picture is subject to copyright, I feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- This reproduction of the album cover is of inferior resolution and quality than the original, and could not be used as an adequate replacement for the original.
- The image is used only to represent the book in question and no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information.
- The image is freely available from many other sources on the internet and its inclusion here does not to make it substantially more accessible than it already is.
- The use of the image here does not limit the copyright holder's ability to distribute, sell or promote the book in any way.
- Copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the book artwork on another book.
Licensing:
[edit]This image is of book cover(s), and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover(s) or the publisher of the book(s). It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under the copyright law of the United States. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. | |
