The image depicts the five-person lineup that the Beatles had in Hamburg, consisting of Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe but not Ringo Starr, allowing the viewer to immediately understand that the term "Beatles" in the title does not refer to the group of people most commonly associated with the term.
