Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | The file will be used at the top of the article as a representation of the Beatles' time in Hamburg. |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
The Beatles broke up in 1970, and three of the subjects of the image are deceased. |
Not replaceable with textual coverage because (WP:NFCC#1) |
As a promotional image, this shows the intended branding of the Beatles at the time in a way that could not be served by text alone. Seeing the difference between the band's appearance in 1960 and their appearance at the height of their fame is important to understanding their cultural influence.
The image depicts the five-person lineup that the Beatles had in Hamburg, consisting of Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe but not Ringo Starr, allowing the viewer to immediately understand that the term "Beatles" in the title does not refer to the group of people most commonly associated with the term. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | The file will be used one time at the top of the page. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The use of a low-resolution version of an image that is already widely available will not harm the commercial opportunities of its owner. |
